Aww, give the guy's ad people a break, it's only that one, brief, shot that's recognizably Vancouver. And if they've watched a lot of TV and movies, they've probably seen Vancouver pretending to be U.S. cities so often that it seems familiar. Besides, those houses in the ad, they're as overpriced as his ad suggests.
(From the screen-grab still: the diagnostic of 'Vancouverness' is that tower in the right quarter of the skyline, that looks like a bowl with a plunger on top - that's the 'Top of Vancouver' revolving restaurant. You can't see the majestic North Shore mountains, because the photographer is
on the North Shore, shooting across the water to the panorama of the city. Out of the shot, to the very far right, is Stanley Park, big and green with a nice seawall to walk around it on. For people not living near a port - the tall frame-like structures sticking up into the sky at an angle are for loading containers onto ships: you're looking at the commercial docks.)
This promo is brought to you by Tourism Vancouver (No, not really.

It's such a fleeting shot that I'm kind of impressed that Buzzfeed spotted it.
