Once again, it's time to state our goals for the month (writing and otherwise) so we can hold ourselves accountable and get lots of encouragement from our fellow WriMo pals!

Mine seem to be never-changing, but I swear #1 and #2 are getting done by the 29th, if not before!

1) Finish rough draft of Book #3 in my fantasy series
2) Revise manuscript of Book #2 in series
3) Read three books
4) Write Sekrit Solstice short story

@ mrsmig - you get a whole extra day to finally get them done :p

Mine:

1. Finish Sekrit Solstice story.
2. Finish Epistolary Romance Set During a (Slow) Zombie Apocalypse - I've been writing this one here and there since I was unexpectedly inspired for an anthology call, which has its deadline at the end of the month. I have no idea if it's working, but it's a lot of fun to write.
3. Bonus: Fix short story. - I have a story that might fit a closing competition theme. I like the start, but I know I'm alone in that. This is only if I have time.
4. AGENT LIST.
4a. And send first query.
5. Min 500 words or 2 pages edited per day. - I need to get some work done or I'll fail this one on the first day.
6. Edit 4 chapters Book 2 UF.
7. Read two books and fully catch up on DSF stories.

It looks like a lot when I put it out like that. I guess I'll need to make use of the extra day as well!

Hi again folks! I'm back to my usual list-making for February.

  • Make it halfway through my remaining scenes in the WIP (at the moment, that would be 9 of 18, but that always shifts)
  • Finish paper revision on MS
  • Send out 5 queries
  • Wait a bit, and send out 5 more queries
  • Stop obsessively checking agents' twitters and assuming they are subtly commenting on my partial
  • Get car in for a check up
  • Get dog in for a check up

I've had such random spurts of being really useful and really useless. Hopefully, this list will help.

I finished all of last month's goals (a first, to be honest), so I'm eager to get started on this month's goals!

Here are my goals for this month:
  • Write first draft of the February WIP (approximate word count: 60k words).
  • Send out monthly newsletter.
  • Blog three times a week on my author blog (1/12 times so far)
  • Make sure everything is ready for my cover reveal on Friday (yaaaaaaay)
  • Write a short story a week (0/4 for this month)
  • Finish editing the rest of Ghostslayer Part I (currently: chapter 9/chapter ?)
  • Write Ghostslayer Part II (estimate: 15-20k words).
  • Edit Ghostslayer Part II.
  • Edit January WIP (0k/62k words, but I'll divide this into chapters for editing)
  • Proofread project 1 for client
  • Edit project for client
  • Proofread project 2 for client

Phew! Looks like I'll have a lot on my plate again, but I look forward to starting on my new WIP. Once I get through the enormous list of chores waiting for me today.

Not a bad start to the month: I got about 500 words into a first draft for my Sekrit Solstice story, and another 300 words written on my WIP. If I can just get myself settled into a writing routine, that'd be swell. I prefer writing in the morning when the house is quiet, but my current production is a kid's show, and performances are during the day. The run lasts until the 21st, so I've got to train myself to write at night, at least until the show is closed. Onward!

Hey, I missed out on the January challenges because I was stuck in my own head too much. Hit my 15k monthly wordcount goal though, and looking forward to February and the challenges it holds.

1) Finish beta reading a friend's sci-fi novel.
2) Send out the edit of my current WIP to betas.
3) Read at least one book for pleasure.
4) If previous three tasks are done, start a new WIP.
5) Hit 15k wordcount for the month.

Uh, okay.

1) write 1K per day (or equivalent, if I miss a day for some reason)
2) edit my manuscript to the point where I'm okay with it being beta'd.

Update...

  • Make it halfway through my remaining scenes in the WIP (at the moment, that would be 9 of 18, but that always shifts) ETA -- I did one and a half of these. Downside, I still don't know how inaccurate 18 is...
  • Finish paper revision on MS Halfway!
  • Send out 5 queries sent 2
  • Wait a bit, and send out 5 more queries I don't know I have 5 more in me
  • Stop obsessively checking agents' twitters and assuming they are subtly commenting on my partial Mostly!
  • Get car in for a check up
  • Get dog in for a check up

Not a lot of writing done over the past couple of days but I did finish a book: Orphan Train, by Christina Baker Kline. I wish I liked it better; it started off so strongly that I had high hopes for it, but then it just seemed to run out of steam. The final quarter of the book was pat and predictable. An easy read, though - I started it this morning and finished about 20 minutes ago.

1) Finish rough draft of Book #3 in my fantasy series
2) Revise manuscript of Book #2 in series
3) Read three books - 1 of 3
4) Write Sekrit Solstice short story

I had two long subway rides today, which gave me a chance to both start and finish another book - albeit a short one. I read Louis Sachar's Holes and really enjoyed it. Good plot, smart writing and a nicely wry tone that kept what could have been a very bleak story from becoming one.

1) Finish rough draft of Book #3 in my fantasy series
2) Revise manuscript of Book #2 in series
3) Read three books - 2 of 3
4) Write Sekrit Solstice short story

1. Finish Sekrit Solstice story. Progress being made. I should finish this up soon, all polished and everything.
2. Finish Epistolary Romance Set During a (Slow) Zombie Apocalypse. Done a smidgen, but need to knuckle down if I have any chance of finishing it in time to edit it.
3. Bonus: Fix short story.
4. AGENT LIST. Done a little.
4a. And send first query. Gulp. Done. First proper batch might have to wait till March :p
5. Min 500 words or 2 pages edited per day. So far so good.
6. Edit 4 chapters Book 2 UF. 1/4 Finished Chapter 19, haven't started on Chapter 20 yet.
7. Read two books and fully catch up on DSF stories. Catching up on the stories. Reading the 5e DnD player's handbook. My friend across the country was talking about the game she was going to run, and I wistfully went I'd like to do that (I've only ever played one or two games before). And then we realised... actually, we probably could, if we set up Skype and web cams and stuff. We had a preliminary session last Sunday and it went well! Not as good as being actually in the same room, of course, but good. And my sister sitting herself off the camera and then waving a rice cracker in front of it each time she ate one was hilarious.

:hooray: Congrats! It's such a big step but you did it! YAY you! :snoopy:

Also, had to dig a bit to remember the name, but https://roll20.net/ exists to do that sort of thing. It's meant to coordinate groups that can't meet in person, but I think it should work with one person remote too.

Congratulations on getting that first query out, Tamlyn!

I was wide awake from 2-4 a.m., which was not fun except that I did sit down and write for a good portion of that time, and in consequence am almost finished with the troublesome scene that's been stalling progress on my WIP for the past few days. I have also mentally roughed out my Sekrit Solstice short and just need to sit down and write it.

Yesterday I finished How To Get Dressed by Alison Freer, a nonfiction book on maintaining one's wardrobe, so technically I've completed one of February's goals. However, I skimmed a lot of it (I already knew many of the techniques she discusses), so I'm only giving myself half a credit for it. I have to go to NYC on Monday for an audition, so I'll treat myself to a new Pratchett to read and take along a compo book to rough out the short story during the two 4-hour bus rides. I used to take my laptop along on such rides but I'm going to see if I get more done hand-writing this time.

1) Finish rough draft of Book #3 in my fantasy series - coming along
2) Revise manuscript of Book #2 in series -not yet
3) Read three books - 3 of 3 DONE
4) Write Sekrit Solstice short story - planning

ETA: I got halfway through Bridget Stutchbury's The Private Lives of Birds and gave up (it's a nonfiction book and I found myself very much at odds with some of her research methodology), so that makes the remaining half of my book-reading goal. I still treated myself to the new Pratchett for tomorrow's bus journey!

My list pretty much hasn't changed from last time:
  • Plan the revisions to my NaNo project
  • Get through a draft of new novella (in progress)
  • Keep writing streak going (so far so good)
  • Watch Jessica Jones
  • Get back to running 5K (in progress)
  • Sign up for Leap Year virtual run and complete

I kind of completed the Leap Year run, in that my tracker said I'd completed the distance, but the record in my FitBit after had me just shy of the mark :tongue So I'll run it again this weekend, because I want the numbers to line up.

I haven't updated for a while. It's kind of a relief I have updates to add; I've been in a bit of a grey with the writing. I finished my Sekrit Solstice story and sent it off to Cobra. I've finally finished the first draft of the epistolary romance. I looked at the calendar and realised how little time I had left. I'm hopefully going to focus on that tomorrow in between appointments. My biggest problem at the moment if I think while it's a romance, it's maybe not a Romance, which means it probably won't work for the anthology I'm aiming at. And it'll be an impossible submission outside of that. I finished Chapter 20. I started 21, but had to focus on grey and then the short.

I finished the player's manual. I didn't read all the spells, but I count it as read :p Then I read Bryony and Roses by T Kingfisher, which started off bumpily, but once I got past that and used to the style, I very much enjoyed. It was quite short for a novel. I almost caught up on DSF stories. But that was a bit ago so I'm behind again.

Mostly I've been raiding tombs and satisfying my angst by shooting arrows at people's heads (see playing Rise of the Tomb Raider).

1. Finish Sekrit Solstice story. Done!
2. Finish Epistolary Romance Set During a (Slow) Zombie Apocalypse. First draft finished, editing began.
3. Bonus: Fix short story. *snort*
4. AGENT LIST. Done a little.
4a. And send first query. Gulp. Done. First proper batch might have to wait till March :p
5. Min 500 words or 2 pages edited per day. So far so good.
6. Edit 4 chapters Book 2 UF. 2/4
7. Read two books and fully catch up on DSF stories. 2/2 + almost

Got squat done on the bus rides to and from NYC last Monday, other than to read Martin Windrow's The Owl Who Liked Sitting on Caesar and start Pratchett's Interesting Times. However, my show closed yesterday and I have nothing on the calendar before the month ends, which gives me a solid week. I HAVE to get my Sekrit Solstice story written - that's my priority. Anything else that gets accomplished along the way is gravy.

1) Finish rough draft of Book #3 in my fantasy series - coming along
2) Revise manuscript of Book #2 in series -not yet
3) Read three books - 3 of 3 DONE
4) Write Sekrit Solstice short story - planning

My updates are lacking :tongue

  • Plan the revisions to my NaNo project
  • Get through a draft of new novella (in danger)
  • Keep writing streak going (so far so good)
  • Watch Jessica Jones
  • Get back to running 5K (in progress)
  • Sign up for Leap Year virtual run and complete

The novella took a turn around the middle of the month that I do not like. I think I need to back-track and rethink what I'm doing here. It's unlikely I'll have a complete draft by the end of the month. So, that sucks, but the story will be better for it in the end.

So, February is really short. Just saying...

  • Make it halfway through my remaining scenes in the WIP (3 of 9, maybe? It might have been 4 of 10?)
  • Finish paper revision on MS (Nope. Past half, but not much further)
  • Send out 5 queries (Done!)
  • Wait a bit, and send out 5 more queries (did not do. I only have two more flagged on the list)
  • Stop obsessively checking agents' twitters and assuming they are subtly commenting on my partial (done! Actually this item is the only reason I've checked lately.)
  • Get car in for a check up (no...)
  • Get dog in for a check up (....no......)

This was not an accomplished month.
