Little question on dialogue

I had a quick scan of thread topics, so I'm sorry if the answer is around here somewhere, but I didn't know what to search for.

Do you capitalize terms of endearment in dialogue? Honey, baby, trouble, lass, and so on.

For eggs: Hi, honey, how are you doing? Or: Come here, lass.

I've heard that the general rule is that if you can replace the word with a name then you should...at least, I think that's what I understood from this. I was a bit confused. Is this the same?

I'd lowercase unless the word is used instead of the name throughout.

Oh, so like a nickname uppercase? But if it's just a throwaway word, then lowercase?

Hmm... From what I remember, I don't think I remember any terms of endearment usually aren't capitalized. I know some titles/positions can be (like King/Queen; Prince/Princess; President; etc), but I don't know if terms of endearment are considered something similar.

For my own writing, I personally don't capitalize terms of endearment. However, maybe there are some exceptions to the rule? Maybe it depends on how the speaker uses the term (like a title)?
