Just looking for some ideas. I am writing a murder scene, but I am having a hard time writing this scene because it feel like I should describe the killer, but that may give it away. I can write it without describing the killer but would readers find this cheating?

Maybe write about it from the victim's PoV? Up until they're dead, of course.... And then maybe flip to a detective who's investigating the murder? He/she can describe what was left behind, kind of close the loop.

How many mysteries do you read? In how many of these mysteries is the killer described at the murder scene?

Thank you for the replies! I guess what I didn't explain is that the person being murdered knows the killer. They are friends. So I'm not sure how to do this without it seeming unrealistic that the victim wouldn't mention their name, etc.

It would be completely realistic. People don't constantly call each other by name when they're face to face in real life, so why should they in books?
