Got some low, rank, bottom
of a bottle of the bottom of
a barrel’s end
so hello
that’s where I spend
almost all my time,

don’t see why
anyone calls it high,

(when it’s)
mo’ so low, rank, bottomed-out
butt-end down
smile’s wearing a frown

(so fuck u!
not out
yet )smoky-tuned
floating above/beyond bottomless
disowned-ground
encroaching-on-the ort cloud
found in B-flat (bless
my ass damnit) blues – eh?

~

If you've got anything to add at least try to not bum me out.

Nice to see you posting again Mag!

In the beginning, for me, it was a "high". But it began to set lower and lower. I chased that high for a long time and never found it again!

I lived in this poem. Thank you.

I'm assuming all the "bottoms" to begin, were to emphasize that it was no longer a "high".

(After a bit of a quiet spell, what a wonderful burst of poems in this room in the last 24 hours!)

I love this, Mag. So atmospheric and bluesy. It made me want to put my Lead Belly album, chased down with some vintage Tom Waits.

Thanks for the comments.

Update - shades of blue often appear nearly white, depending on the illumination-source spectrum, according to a reading on my mood meter. >**<

Well I did interpret this according to my own histories and might have missed the authors intent. I do like it.

You managed to mix in alliteration, assonance and consonance in one euphonious poem. Not too shaby, not too shaby at all. :)

I've seen this thread go by from time to time in the "Latest Posts". I'm not into poetry at all, but I have to say that I love the title.

Often this sort of dirty messy poetry misses me, and I don't really get it. (Ulysses - a two hundred-page paragraph? Really, now.) But you got me with this one - it feels 3-D and bitter and grimy and kind of drunk but still aware.

It would be too lazy to say it reminds me of Tom Waits, but it does.

This might be my favorite Mags poem to date!
