Fortress and jailer, gated cage,
a tree’s wild spirit rages in my keep.
Its many tongues spit fury,
resisting capture to the last.
I stand strong while the watchman sleeps,
trusting to my vigilance
the cat, the rug, his slippered feet.

Winter's chill be fierce without
faithful Woodstove, hot and stout.

I branch out like the letter V
Unhinged, I would be useless
And sometimes while it’s smooth I be
I’m better off not toothless

I often sit for days unused
Unneeded and ignored
But in a pinch I’m not refused
You’re happy I was stored

With errant wooded injuries
My value quotient soars
Or eyebrows raised in victory
Then my performance roars…

Cheers, Bob (why the hell am I not sleeping???)

For young'uns and for geezers,
sometimes there's need for tweezers.

(My first thought was those old rabbit-ears television antennae, but, no....)

Close enough. I was seeing a fireplace.

Ah! Well, I thought "gated cage" might not be a fireplace cause not every fireplace has a screen, but oh well! :D

I trace my history to still waters,
ponds and quiet pools.
Within me, a portrait reappears
and vanishes, changing over time,
composite, yet unique.
Don't look to me to mask or flatter.
Light and truth are all that matter.

Riding the winds of a rainbow towards infinity
I trace my history to still waters,

Don't look to me to mask or flatter.
Light and truth are all that matter.

With your direction
My guess...reflection

Here's looking' at you Cheers, Bob

Where the light is
I come in life and leave in death,
in winter months I hold my breath;
without me life would leave you raw -
you'll find me in your kitchen's maw.

I apologize for my absence,
here's a hint for those askew:
an oven is the "kitchen's maw",
I wonder what it offers food?

In winter months the sun is far,
and snow and wind abound;
yet we can cuddle, making this,
to keep us safe and sound.

One last clue for those in need,
or who really love the game;
it's capitalized in basketball,
Miami owns this name.

How neat!
The answer's HEAT.

Google can solve it even if we can't. hahahaha

*note to self: if the answer isn't a physical object, it might be a quality. Duh!

Good one, _city_. Thanks!

Not a riddle, just a reflection:

Said the Wicked Queen,
Summarily, I order thee,
dare not ever come between
my friend and lovely Royal Me.
He may be glass, but never fear,
he tells me what I want to hear.

Finally! I knew it couldn't be a Dolphin, the only Miami sports team name I know.

Twins, though often found
a little way apart.
Multiform, we cling and swing
like mountaineers
to the lips of jutting ledges.
Released, we reunite,
rejoin our companions,
a sorority of twins.

Yep. Unless it's feet. (but "sorority"?)

Clues would probably help.

hahahaha! Bad idea. Feet would have to be of clay anyway.

Not feet. Far from feet. 60 vertical inches, at least.

Let me try to pierce this plight,
spring the catch and cast some light.
The mountain face, its crags and peak,
are with us always as we speak.
As for those who dangle there,
when they drop, the ledge is bare.

Six clues. Can't think of any more.
Whoops! Someone's ringing at my door.
I look forward to another post.
Solve this and we'll raise a toast.

( Make that nine clues in all)

*pedestal for sale, cheap*

I can't think of much but twinned body parts like eyes, lips -- but that sorority of twins bit stumps me.

Come on, smart people, where are you?

I'd rather be smart, than good looking, but that's out of my hands... The only 'toast' I'll be raising is either soggy or burnt...This clue does not 'ring' a bell with me... First we're 60-inches away from feet, then we're on a mountain ledge. (BTW, pedestals have no resale value...so don't chuck it yet). If you could save the earth, or cure cancer by solving this Kbelle I'm sure you would...I got a quarter says you can do this!!!

Cheers, Bob
