An iron? If so,

Neatly pressed.
finely dressed,
creases, wrinkles smoothed away,
I'm ready to face this fine new day.

Bang the drum
and strike the cymbal!
Don't prick your thumb,
pick up that thimble!

(Actually, I dunno, maybe Demeter's right. First stanza kinda threw me.)

Riding the winds of a rainbow towards infinity
Bang the drum
and strike the cymbal!
Don't prick your thumb,
pick up that thimble!

(Actually, I dunno, maybe Demeter's right. First stanza kinda threw me.)

My lame, limping first stanza aside
Tis the thimble takes the ride
And though wounded in my pride
By the whole poem...I abide

Cheers, Bob

Well done, Bob; I can't do as well, that's for sure.

Twas my first stanza led you astray
Had you 'pressed' on, you'd still win the day
Judge me not at the Hague
For a clue way too vague
Please don't 'needle' me too much....OK?

Cheers, Bob

Who, you? Nope, not no more. :greenie

ETA: Missed Demeter's neato proffer of "iron" in verse, and Bob's verse response. Nice!

I don't know how you did that, Kylabelle. Amazing powers of deduction. I was imagining someone spitting on their finger to
see if the iron was hot. Where did that come from? Ancestral memory? The needle was completely baffling.

A group of students, ten in all,
move up and down my patio
in consultation with their notes,
while just inside my paneled room,
a troupe of dancers in felt hats
imitate their rhythm
tapping to the beat.

I don't know why but this cracked me up. I guess it was the "amazing powers" part.

And, to be honest? I think I got it telepathically. :greenie

I used to practice every day
in hopes that very soon I'd play
with skill and art and fine "brio"
good music on my piano.

What can I say except, Wonderful, I'm not surprised and good night? The motto for this game should be, "We write 'em, you solve 'em."

A fragile craft,
I fly without wings
and only as far as my captor allows.
Still, I struggle for freedom,
tug at my leash.
And, if I won, broke free,
followed the winds,
what then?
How far would I fly?
How long before my fall from grace?

How long before my fall from grace?

A cloud has no tether,
I doubt it's a feather
a hat in the breeze
or a kitty-cat's sneeze.

I shut my eyes tight
(will I get this one right?)
and guess, Yes! It's a kite!

Good answer and the right one. I noticed that a lot of people have been viewing this even if they are not taking part. Bob was the one who told me about AW and urged me to join. I'm glad that I did.

I'm glad you did too Marjorie (hope I didn't say too much), and many others will soon be as well, as your resume cracks open wider and wider, and the wonder of your words finds a larger audience...

Cheers, Bob

Oh what the hell...why not?

Wax on...wax off
Amidst the brilliance
Shadowed walls and drapes undulate
I compete with the moon but not to win
I could never win...
But there's reading...perhaps even aloud
And lovers, ignoring me with silent gratitude
I burn with awe at my willing sacrifice..

A lovely one. And thank you for the kind words, Bob.

In a window, against the night,
a welcome, warming sight.
For the traveler, long away,
it says, "Come in, come in. Please stay."

In partnership we ply our trade,
linked like alpine climbers
though we travel on the flat.
I am the leader, trail-breaker,
sharp-eyed scout.
She follows at a steady pace,
marking, mapping, step by step
repairs the path for future use.
I take her as needed cross and back.
Running often saves us time.

As we go, the space between us shortens,
almost disappears,
then, in a snap, our partnership is finished,
severed without sentiment.
(She and her work are one)
Time then to return to my brothers,
keen and ready craftsmen,
bridling at loose ends.

With great reluctance, leave the bed
Toss water on this sleepy head
And check for riddles, which I've read
An ode, I think, to needle and thread?

Semi confident Cheers, Bob

Would you look at the time...

If nothing else, I demand order
My personality, my purpose, my existence
Is to supply neatness; to regulate
Corners square…priorities insist and arrange
I love paperwork, by the way

You’d never know, to look at me
That I’m tough…I get the job done
My size would fool you
Often I work alone
My preference, “yes”
But occasionally, when pressed, I need help
My brothers pitch in

I have a low key insignificance
That belies my gritty strength
Tenacious, I cling to my principles
I never let go…not willingly
And even when forced, I may still draw blood
My commitment is all in…

Probably not my best...

Cheers, Bob

I was going to say, I'm stumped but it's still early. Then I thought, oh, maybe it's....

but it is DEFinitely too early to put my guess in a verse so, later.... Unless someone else with more wits about them comes along before I get to it. :)

Nice work, Bob!

It won't be me, at least not yet. I'm browsing the shelves of Office Depot, but I could be in the wrong store.
