Hi, guys. Miss me? Sorry about the popping in and out thing. Between the cold weather, various health annoyances, the cold, life getting busy, how cold it's been, having to buy a new car in a big hurry -- and did I mention it's cold? -- I actually think I'm a little depressed. Not "let's open some veins and see how that plays out" depressed. More "let's spend days and days surfing YouTube and playing videogames I've already beaten a hundred times instead of writing" depressed. I haven't been able to focus on writing. I haven't been able to focus on anything much; even my reading has been in fits and starts.
BUT! We're gonna shake this off and get back to work. We're starting by getting a vente screwdriver here in the Cantina; do y'all have screwdrivers in bucket-size?
It's been a week and eight pages of Cantina since your last Junely sighting, I know. But I'm not going to multi-post, because not gonna, so there! But I will answer this one question:
Are you a middle or younger child? I ask as I'm a year and a half older than you (will be 53 in October) but your parents are older than mine. Mine were born in 1933 (Dad) and 1942 (Mum), but I'm an oldest child, of two. I do feel I'm fortunate that I do still have both my parents who are both in good shape as I have friends around my age who have lost one or both of theirs. A work colleague who is three months older than mine is about to lose her mother, sad to say.
I'm the second of four daughters. Older sister is two years older than me (and a foot and a half shorter, which I never fail to enjoy pointing out to her). According to Mama, Big Sister was born "nine months and fifteen minutes" after their wedding day. I was born the day before Big Sister's 2nd birthday, which she still resents; apparently there was a great party planned, and I ruined it.
She and I almost always celebrate our birthdays together: one big treat, rather than two competing ones.
You all win the internet. Yep, Starship Troopers. Snored my way through the book, had hysterics at the film.
I love the book, but I can see why others might not. The movie was great B-movie fun. But its faithfulness to the book is on a level with the book/movie separation on World War Z. Both were great fun, but the only thing they really shared with the books were the titles. Want a laugh? Check the Rifftrax of Starship Troopers; it made an already fun movie even more fun!
Supper tonight is taco salad and Spanish rice. I have some lettuce I want to use up before it dies on me, and I'm always in the mood for Spanish rice, it's just so yummy!
Writing has been... well, you saw: YouTube and videogames have filled my writing time, darn my moody self! I need a kick in the britches!
