Yesterday was kind of a wash writing-wise. I did finish up a chapter on the Monster Society novella and sent it back to the co-author. And I wrote about two paragraphs on my SSSFFSS, but managed to start mentally writing the last sequence.

Doctor's appointment this morning at which we will discuss the issue of chronic pain and meds. I would very much like to be in a position where I don't need the meds to manage pain, but there's been a definite loss in productivity this week that is not just outside stress related. (And, some of that stress is coming from realizing I'm still in pain.)

Anyway. It's Friday here which means the weekend is here. Looking forward to making cookies with Monkey for the New Year celebration at his kenpo class on Monday.

Aggy, ninjabread FTW

Last night I had a dream about a talking bunny who was explaining to me why she wouldn't use the litter box.
Hehe! Hopefully it was a cute bunny. :)

I must be on a roll with the odd dreams because now I had a dream that was kinda, sorta Star Trek Voyager related. The crew was there but they were here on earth at some professional meeting center, and there were people dressed as ringwraiths playing some kind of hopscotch game (I actually know where part of that came from and I'll share it when I can get to my computer cuz it's really cute)
And the star trek people were really cranky and stuff.

I started watching Myth Busters from the beginning and liked the Build Team. I was sad when they left and for some reason the last season of Myth Busters just didn't interest me. Still watched it, though I don't think I'll be watching whoever the new people are.
I liked the Build Team too. The final season still had some interesting myths, but I did feel like something was missing without the WHOLE team being there.

My clinical psychologist just called to move my appointment as he has an emergency to deal with. I really don't want to know what an emergency is for the poor guy, but I am tempted to take him a bar of chocolate. I think he may need it.
Aw, that would be a sweet thing to do. Pun kinda sorta intended. :D

Eta, it seems one of my side-effects is a loss of fingerprints, perhaps now is the perfect time to turn to crime.
*snert* XD

I will be wording today. Got a little stuck and frustrated yesterday but I think part of the reason for that was the decongestant blahs. I really hate when I have to take that stuff. But now my sinuses are clear and hopefully I can focus better.

Taking off early from work today (working overtime the past few days helped out here).

So, I'll be heading out to do some writing, but not on my Sisyphus or even a short story.

Nope, nope, nope ...

I'll be safely ensconced in the Bowie State Library checking out the first set of book for my thesis (due Dec '17). Yep. Time to get back to school and get this darn thing done. Just have to crank out 80 pages - that's the easy part. It's getting the college to buy off on my thesis proposal that's going to take a while, I suspect.

Oh Anya, how you're missed...

(I may have bought the Once More with Feeling CD...)

Reboots only rarely work. I'm withholding judgement, but I wouldn't be too surprised if the next thing I heard about the reboot was that they had cancelled it half a season in.
Reboots are tricky, the only time nowadays they seem to work is if they massively divert from the original premise and events, which kinda makes you wonder why bother with a reboot and not go for something new from the start...

From experience, I'd say that talking bunnies are fine, whether or not they use the litter box, but you should be very careful with the pocket-watch wearing ones...
Talking to one I suppose is fine, but don't follow it home?

Time to get back to school and get this darn thing done.
Go you.

Now that cleaning is done, what to do? Play something of my gigantic pile of sale period games or to sisyphus? Decisions decisions...

Probably won't have time to write for a few days :(

When I got home my hubby had made me my favorite cake--black forest, with layers of brandy-soaked cherries and topped with more brandy-soaked cherries and a light whipped cream frosting flavored with brandy. It's so awesome to get a buzz off cake *puts out left-over cake for the Cantina*

Apparently today is National Chocolate Cake day so this is well-timed

Woo thesis! You can do it! :e2cheer: What topic are you thinking of doing?

What happened to her in the last couple of seasons makes me angrier than anything else in the series. She's not even my favourite character, she just got freaking robbed of a happy ending.

I have all the songs on my phone!

I have made all of the writing productivity! However, while I am getting many words done on the magical-girl-influenced urban fantasy, another plot bunneh is trying to weasel its way in, something more light-hearted and high-fantasy about a demigod heroine who ends up having to gather a band of heroes to stop All The Evil (and one member of said band of heroes is her mortal mom). Maybe I'll figure out some alternate-days writing scheme.

Perhaps the scariest part of writing is figure out what I'll do when it's actually done. It'd be wonderful to Step 1: Get Published / Step 2: ??? / Step 3: Profit, yet part of me feels like just posting it online to freely read would be less pressure. Then again, either plan has a Step 0: FINISH THE DANG THING ANYTHING AT ALL requirement, so I can think about that some other time.

I was going to save this for next year's Sisyphus prompt, but...

...

Now it is in your head.

Let the Battle of the Earworms commence.

Not in my head. Didn't really watch Avatar. I only recognize the big animal thing.

Also, the only thing stuck in my head is "Square Hammer". Slightly annoying, but oh well.

We had to put my doggie Dax to sleep today :( She was 11.

 :Hug2:

Many hugs. We are getting ready to make the tough decision for our 13 yr old pittie. It's never an easy thing.

 :Hug2:

I find it fascinating that when I start to type "V-a-l" on my phone, "Valkyrie" comes up before "Valentines" does...

For some reason, this made me think of an idea where everyone born on a specific day in a specific year discovers on their [whatever]th birthday that they're half-[insert fantasy being here].

"Valkyrie" would probably be one of the least-appealing results, though...

I would love to be half-Valkyrie! Yeah! Come to me, O brave slain warriors! I shall escort you to your spot in Odin's feast hall! But only halfway there, because I'm half-Valkyrie. Oh, I'm sorry, can't you fly? Sorryyyyyy.....

I have a co-worker who is very meticulous and detail oriented. I say this from the perspective that we are all accountants here, and meticulous/detail-oriented as a baseline. She is also incredibly condescending and arrogant. She was asked to do a review of my workpapers (all get reviewed twice. Once was done with a few notes, and fixed.) Her second review had 27 notes. I cleared those and resubmitted. She has another 20, and more notes on about 10 of the original ones. I think she 'cleared' 9 of the original notes.

I do like learning. She has taught me a lot about this particular footnote, information that is helpful to have. However, she has written an entire paragraph on an item that was rounded by one, because it was rounded. We round all the time. When you're reporting stuff in millions, and your materiality level (the level below which you don't care if it's wrong) is 17 million, you don't care about a 1 million in rounding. She does.

I'm a patient person, but I feel like rounding off and punching her in the smug face.

I have had an interesting experience this week. I listened to a 'classic' SF book this week. It bored me to tears - lesson learnt: do not read books older than yourself unless they come recommended, they are aimed at other people not in your demographic. Tonight, I have watched the movie of said book. Now it was never going to be the same experience, but what!!! They turned it into an old-fashioned 'B' movie that would have fit right into the era the book was originally written in. I haven't laughed so much in ages.

Starship Troopers? (I only ask because I recently saw part of a Starship Troopers marathon on Comet. Movie two or three was so very awful, I could barely stand to watch.)

I had an epiphany about a thing. Now to contemplate.

Also, it's Friday. And I have rum so the world has not gone to hell yet.

Aggy, shlurring? Surely not.

I'd have guessed John Carter of Mars.

That's I thought. But the seriously cheesy B movie done well before 'John Carter'. I really liked the latter, and was sad when it bombed. I loved how badass Dejah Thoris became. Instead of a prize prop, she was a sword wielding scientist.

Yeah, I really liked that change.

Starship Troopers is about as cheesy B movie as it gets. It really worked well for that story, though.

Hi, guys. Miss me? Sorry about the popping in and out thing. Between the cold weather, various health annoyances, the cold, life getting busy, how cold it's been, having to buy a new car in a big hurry -- and did I mention it's cold? -- I actually think I'm a little depressed. Not "let's open some veins and see how that plays out" depressed. More "let's spend days and days surfing YouTube and playing videogames I've already beaten a hundred times instead of writing" depressed. I haven't been able to focus on writing. I haven't been able to focus on anything much; even my reading has been in fits and starts.

BUT! We're gonna shake this off and get back to work. We're starting by getting a vente screwdriver here in the Cantina; do y'all have screwdrivers in bucket-size?

It's been a week and eight pages of Cantina since your last Junely sighting, I know. But I'm not going to multi-post, because not gonna, so there! But I will answer this one question:

Are you a middle or younger child? I ask as I'm a year and a half older than you (will be 53 in October) but your parents are older than mine. Mine were born in 1933 (Dad) and 1942 (Mum), but I'm an oldest child, of two. I do feel I'm fortunate that I do still have both my parents who are both in good shape as I have friends around my age who have lost one or both of theirs. A work colleague who is three months older than mine is about to lose her mother, sad to say.

I'm the second of four daughters. Older sister is two years older than me (and a foot and a half shorter, which I never fail to enjoy pointing out to her). According to Mama, Big Sister was born "nine months and fifteen minutes" after their wedding day. I was born the day before Big Sister's 2nd birthday, which she still resents; apparently there was a great party planned, and I ruined it. ;) She and I almost always celebrate our birthdays together: one big treat, rather than two competing ones.

You all win the internet. Yep, Starship Troopers. Snored my way through the book, had hysterics at the film.

I love the book, but I can see why others might not. The movie was great B-movie fun. But its faithfulness to the book is on a level with the book/movie separation on World War Z. Both were great fun, but the only thing they really shared with the books were the titles. Want a laugh? Check the Rifftrax of Starship Troopers; it made an already fun movie even more fun!

Supper tonight is taco salad and Spanish rice. I have some lettuce I want to use up before it dies on me, and I'm always in the mood for Spanish rice, it's just so yummy!

Writing has been... well, you saw: YouTube and videogames have filled my writing time, darn my moody self! I need a kick in the britches!

Hey, Junely. :) I, too, am lacking the motivation/inspiration/mindset for writing and, to some extent, for making music as well. However, with the music stuff, I've started actually attaching specific riffs/whatever to my "I wanna play guitar" urges. That's a bit vague... Basically, it used to be the guitar-playing urge was just that - I wanted to play guitar. Now I'm starting to have the same urge, but with an added riff or chunk of song attached to it. Which is definitely a good thing!

In related news, OMG, I want to buy all the things. First, I need my own place, so I have room, but I'm really itching to get a drum kit, along with probably a new keyboard, some recording mics, a voice-transformer doohickey, an acoustic guitar, a 7-string guitar, etc. Just all the things. But even if I could afford such things right now (which I can't, with the exception of an acoustic guitar and 1 microphone, maybe), I just have 0 space for them. The only thing I'd really have space for would be a new keyboard - but the 1 I want costs nearly 2 grand, which is just way out of my price range right now.
