A chatter suggested there would be fun to be had in having a Synonym War thread. So here it is, first iteration of rules, we can refine them once we've seen how it works.
I will start by posting a word.
People post as many synonyms of that word as they can think of. Do it from memory, not a thesaurus -- we probably won't be able to tell, but that'd be pretty cheaty. After 24 hours has passed w/o any more responses, last person to post an original synonym is declared winner, and someone can start with a new word. People who post the word should probably not participate in the synonyminating.
Ok? Ok. I asked the originator of the idea, leslie williams, to pick the first word, and she gives us:
