Hello AW friends!:e2coffee::e2coffee:

I've been stalking threads for a while, but finally joined so I can participate. I call myself a jaded newbie because I've been writing and querying novels since 2009 (4 completed novels, countless literary agent requests (yay!) and rejections (tears:cry:), and 1 broken contract with a shitty small press). I'm currently crossing my fingers because my 3rd novel received an R&R request from my dream agent, and she currently has the revised version. The 4th is finished, but I'm hoping to participate in #PitchWars before querying, to make it stronger. I write women's fiction, usual dual narrative or multi POV, with a historical story woven in.

My full MS for novel #3 is still out with 3 agents, but if they reject, I'm ready to self publish! I thought I'd never give up the goal of traditional publication, but 6 years of sitting on the sidelines is a loooooong time! I'm done waiting. I look forward to meeting all of you! What do you write? Have you become jaded like me? :)

hello, la nuit etoilee! welcome! to answer your questions, i mostly write supernatural fiction, but i've written for other genres, too. i haven't become jaded, but i'm nowhere close to a novel yet so that might be why.

Very nice to meet you! I just got started here myself. My genre is fantasy, but there's plenty of room here for all kinds and styles. I've been posting in all corners, and I'm sure our paths will cross somewhere soon. :)

Hi. Yeah, waiting so long isn't a fun pastime. I'm pretty much in the same boat with my mysteries--enough interest to keep me trying the tradition route but no offers.

I know many self-publishers who are glad they went that route, so good luck whichever way you choose.

:welcome:, Night with stars (high school French not completely forgotten--only what I did yesterday :greenie). You'll find lots of writers sharing your genre here.

La nuit etoilee - Welcome. I'm new here as well, but like you, have been prowling in the shadows for a while. Learning and observing. I can say this for this forum; there is a huge volume of knowledge here. I finally joined the group so I could ask a question. ;-)

I plan on self-publishing, sooner-rather-than-later. I've heard a lot of horror stories of writers waiting year after year, receiving rejection letter after rejection letter, becoming a "Jaded" writer. As for me, I write fiction. It's an action/adventure/military/humor/soft-porn series with a classic rock foundation. I'm trying to single-handedly create my very own genre. What do you think? Kind of a niche market, to be certain.

Wishing you the very best from North Carolina.

Thanks Chase! Waiting for agent replies can be crazy making. I celebrated my birthday yesterday, and it was my 6th year of wishing for an agent, and obsessively checking email instead of just chilling out and enjoying the other things in life. I chose La Nuit Etoilee because it's my favorite Van Gogh painting (Starry night over the Rhone) but my French is pretty terrible! ;) Very mice to meet you!!

Hi Classic Rock! Nice to meet you! :) Yes, I think self publishing is perfect when your novel doesn't fit into a set genre, because agents are so strict and picky about what they can sell. Then you can choose how you want to market your book, and who you think will read it. You never know! I am still hoping for a traditional deal, but I look forward to self publishing if it doesn't work out that way. Wishing you the best too! :)

Nice to meet you, Corsairs! I'm hoping I'll get better at navigating the forums, because I love fellow writers of all genres--we understand one another. Have a great day!

Welcome, I'm a newbie myself :welcome:

I have the first book of my eight book YA series completed and have been sending queries to agents. I have gotten some rejections. At this point I am more than likely gong to self publish my books. I am looking to start the process sometime after the summer and I am really excited about it.

Years ago when I first started sending queries and receiving rejections, I just thought that nobody thought my story concept was good enough. Now, I am more confident and determined. I hired a freelance editor a few months ago to help me with my structure and flow. I just hired a proofreader to give me that third set of eyes and I am going to make sure that this series comes out one way or the other.

I have been doing this since I was seventeen and I am nearly five books finished, YAY!

No matter what, never give up on your talents and your dreams. Writing is not an easy task and it takes a creative mind to pull characters and scenes from your head and put them to paper....or a computer screen, lol.

Wow, that's an amazing amount of work. I am only now working on my first book and even though I have quite a bit written I have miles to go before I sleep. Look forward to hearing of your success.
