Hello everyone,
I’m looking for beta readers of a... sci-fi. It has 113000 words and it’s a nice story, I think.
Here’s my beta version of a cover letter so you might get the picture:
Living in the autocratic State that controls every aspect of human lives, Claire does what she can to provide for her young sister Julia. She is the only thing in this cruel world that keeps her alive.
But then the State murders Julia.
The State of Failure is a dark story about a woman descending into madness in a bleak dystopian world that chillingly mirrors our own possible future. Following the death of her parents, Claire fixates on Julia and sacrifices her life to ensure Julia’s is as perfect as it can be. However, her plight is an unenviable one, because both her co-workers and the State seem to be watching, suspecting her of sedition, waiting for an excuse to act.
Despite her best efforts, her dream gradually falls apart and her sister is killed by none other than the heads of the State. Bereaved, toppled over the edge of sanity, and driven beyond the point of no return, she flees and sets out to avenge her sister. And as her path leads her toward dark discoveries and horrible truths about the State, she begins to unravel a secret that she would rather not learn...
Unfortunately, this doesn’t sum up the whole novel. There’s a bit more going on, but it’s hard to describe. The main topics are perception, madness, and our bleak future. The story is also a bit surreal. It’s very dark, perhaps cruel and violent, but your mileage may vary.
I’m mainly concerned about the language (grammar and stuff... I read and read and edit and edit and it all eventually starts to melt and stops making sense, yet despite that I’m never too sure).
I understand this is my first post on the forums here, so it might cause some problems, but I’m a bit reserved and haven’t found any place where my limited knowledge would help anyone. (I’m still lurking actively though.) However, I’m active on the IRC chat, so perhaps you might have noticed me there.
Also, I’m willing to beta-test in return.
