Just as in April, even though this is Camp NaNo month, I started our usual monthly thread. Some of us may not be participating in Camp and/or have other objectives beyond their Camp goals.

Mine are:

Write 15k words for Camp - 0 out of 15,000
Revise manuscript of Book #2 in series - 0 of 1
Write a blog post - 0 of 1
Read four books - 0 of 4
Continue exploring the Montgomery AL area

Thanks for starting the thread, mrsmig!

Here are my goals for July:

  • Finish first draft of Ghostslayer (current word count: 56k/65k words).
  • Edit Demonic Pact (current: 3 chapters / 43 chapters)
  • Write first draft Angel Assassin for Camp NaNo July (current word count: 0k/60-70k words).
  • Work on my “Penny Dreadful” novella, Faithless (not at all inspired by the awesome TV series).
  • Write the first part in my dark fiction serial, Fire & Brimstone. (word count: 0k/8-10k words).
  • Send out newsletter on the first Monday of the month.
  • Work on website for dark fiction / horror.
  • Edit two books for clients.
  • Proofread three books for clients.

Looks like it'll be another busy month!

I hoped you'd start a thread :)

1. Edit final six chapters UF
2. Get one page/two page synopsis vaguely into shape
3. Get query into QLH shape
4. Edit and sub flash story
5. Read four books
6. 500 words and/or 2 pages edited minimum per day

I've gone back down on my reading goal. I was reading lots before I made it a higher goal, so perhaps I'll start again.

Mine's a simple goal:

15,000 words for WIP#2, which is my Camp goal

Unofficially I want to see if I can do 3,000 a day (doubtful) across all my WIPs, which is only 500 each, which equals to about a scene each. I actually have a lot of scenes thought up already for all of them, it's just the words aren't coming. Hopefully with it being Camp it'll jumpstart my brain. Anyways, if I don't do the 3,000 a day, I won't sweat it.

Putting my current WIP statuses here for reference, because I know somewhere down the line I'll forget to take note of my starting count before I write for the day.

WIP #1: 37,684/70,000
WIP #2: 48,815/100,000

Series
Book 1: 6,107/50,000
Book 2: 40,844/50,000
Book 3: 1,460/50,000
Book 4: 3,341/50,000

Decent start. Today is my first day in costume for this production, and I expect the experience will make for pretty good blog fodder.

Hello hello hello lovely 'wrimo-ers.

July Goals:

1. Write 40k of my hella fun redraft. (Camp NaNo Project).
2. Begin redraft of giant robot project, aim to get both redrafts down uncharacteristically quick.
3. Beta read a novella for a friend, and full MS for another.
4. Try and catch up with my library book pile and general TBR pile.
5: Leisure time: Dragon Age Origins, and working on my visual novel project.

Turned out we weren't in costume after all, but I had a long fitting and then a couple hours in the flying harness trying to perfect my entrance (which seemed like an exercise in futility without the costume, which will add a lot of bulk and about 25 extra pounds to the process). In my down time I finished another book in the Discworld series, so that's a notch on this month's goals.

*slinks in*

So much to do.

  • Paper edit (again) the first half of SK (which will likely become TSD)
  • File edit (again) the first half of SK/TSD
  • Write a synopsis
  • Drink wine

It's my birthday this weekend, and I can't celebrate because everyone is away at holiday parties, or off in other states. I'm going to bake a cake to bring to work, because that's as close as I'll get.

Maybe I should have put "cheese" on my to-do list, so I can have that to go with all my whine...

Every time you mention your flying, MrsMig, I think it sounds like the coolest thing ever!

Progress (Day 1):

WIP #1: 37,770/70,000 (86 new words)
WIP #2: 49,039/100,000 (224 new words)

Series
Book 1: 6,107/50,000 (0 new words)
Book 2: 40,844/50,000 (0 new words)
Book 3: 2,028/50,000 (568 new words)
Book 4: 3,341/50,000 (0 new words)

I haven't written any since the first day. Haven't been feeling well. Gonna try to do some writing tonight and try to get caught up a little. I'm just going to write scenes I already though of long time ago. Not going to do the heavy thinking stuff (like plot holes or motivations, etc., or any new stuff) until I'm fully healed.

ETA: Apparently I wrote a little in WIP #2 before July started, but I didn't update it when I made my first post with the goals. To simplify things, I'm just going to count that as words written this month. It wasn't much anyways.

Another long day of tech - I was used only at the beginning and the end of a 12-hour span, which was wearying but also conducive to writing, if only to combat the boredom. My two MCs have met up again, and hostilities are about to commence.

Got a new-to-my-library Agatha Christie, which meant it was one I hadn't read since I was a teenager and I couldn't remember anything. That is a very odd experience for Agatha Christie.

Progress (Day 4):

WIP #1: 37,869/70,000 (99 new words)
WIP #2: 49,335/100,000 (296 new words)

Series
Book 1: 6,107/50,000 (0 new words)
Book 2: 40,844/50,000 (0 new words)
Book 3: 2,249/50,000 (221 new words)
Book 4: 3,460/50,000 (119 new words)

Total new words: 735

I'm not expecting to make any progress on Books 1 & 2 of the series while I'm still recovering, as those need some heavy thinking. I'm not happy with the plot for Book 1 and want to think of something with a bit more pizzazz. And Book 2 has a major plot hole that I need to work out. I have scenes that need fleshing out, but I want to save those until I figure out how to fix the plot hole, as I might be able to incorporate that into the scenes. I like to keep the rewrites as little as possible.

I will probably update again in a little bit. I've got a scene I want to finish up for WIP #1, but I wanted to get these updated numbers out first because I'm going to bed soon. Really hate that I'm going to miss the fireworks, but my body is crying out to me.

Started manipulating the next chapter. Finished editing pass on the flash. Fiddled a little with my query, made it as good as it was currently going to get, and stuck it in QLH. I wasn't going to do that until the end of the month, but then I realised I really wasn't going to change anything else. I might as well stick it in now and get a head start on necessary revisions.

Feeling better is a plus. Glad you're on the mend, chompers!

Thanks :) I've lasted the whole day so far without getting dizzy or needing to rest, so I'm really hoping I will be fully recovered soon. Yay.

Progress (Day 5):

WIP #1: 38,733/70,000 (929 new words)
WIP #2: 49,335/100,000 (0 new words)

Series
Book 1: 6,107/50,000 (0 new words)
Book 2: 40,844/50,000 (0 new words)
Book 3: 2,249/50,000 (0 new words)
Book 4: 3,460/50,000 (0 new words)

Total new words: 929

I only worked on one WIP today, but I'm okay with that. Need to take it more easy, even if I'm feeling better, since I'm still recovering. If I'm able to, I'll try to write some more, but I'm fine with my count for today if I don't get to write more. I haven't made much progress towards my Camp goal, but that WIP is a bit harder, so I need more brain power than I am able to give right now. It's not a large goal number, so hopefully I'll be able to catch up easily later.

And still more tech. Tomorrow is a day off and I really need one. I will probably do some grocery shopping and get some laundry done, but other than that I plan just to hang around the apartment, do some writing and kick back a bit.

No writing for me today. Had a full day at work and I'm feeling what a bad idea that was. Going to sleep soon.

Rest and keep getting better, Chompers!

It was good to have a day off. I slept in a bit, then did some writing, took myself to lunch, went shopping, bought groceries, tidied up the apartment, did laundry and made myself dinner. When I wasn't doing that I was reading - I started The Goldfinch yesterday.

Read the Old Venus anthology. While many of the stories had individual flaws, I found myself eagerly looking forward to the next each time. When of late my reading has been, well, non-existent because apparently staring at graffiti on a train is more interesting than the book, that makes the anthology a winner. Hope to finish the next chapter today. Have reworked my query a bit. The new one has more of the info people in QLH seemed to want, but the one person who's read is so far says it's far less intriguing. This query writing business is hard work.

Didn't make much progress yet. Wrote about 3k words in Fire & Brimstone, wrapped up some projects, and that's it. I did finish edits for a client project and got some progress on proofreading another client project.

Goals for today:
  • Write three reviews for on my book review blog.
  • Proofread 50 pages for client project.
  • Write 2k in Fire & Brimstone -> reach 5k words (total word count will be 7-8k)
  • Edit two chapters in Demonic Pact

Yesterday was kind of brutal and I got no writing done. It was another 10/12 rehearsal day (that means we rehearse for 12 hours with a two-hour meal break), and the first half of it was spent doing my death scene over and over. It's a complicated sequence involving part of my costume coming off, a trap door, smoke effects, a big trident and another character flying, all at the same time. I was exhausted by the time the break rolled around and went back to my apartment to rest, only to discover that the hot water tank had died (fortunately before it leaked all over everywhere). Instead of relaxing, I had to deal with maintenance and the theatre's company manager. The maintenance guy set up a hose to drain the tank, so I have no hot water and got to listen to a slow monotonous trickle all night. Today at 10 AM they're going to turn off the water to the entire building while they replace the tank - depriving my fellow thespians of water as well. Should I add that I didn't sleep well, and that our first performance is tonight?

I'm about halfway through The Goldfinch and am losing patience with and empathy for the MC. Someone tell me it's worth pushing on.

I'm sure I'll fail, but my only goal is to finish the freakin' manuscript. I'm projecting about 17K left to write. We'll see.
