So, what is this?

THIS IS THE GENERAL STEAM THREAD!

It is good for announcing steam sales, talking about steam, sharing steam names (remember, we are on a public forum, so you might rather just announce that you're willing to exchange steam names and then do so with PM.)

And now, for the steam anthem...

SALE!

Yay, Steam Thread! Might as well get this started off. :)

First off, I'm down for anyone from here adding me as a Steam buddy. I'm SneakyMonkeySA. You can tell if you have the right person by the avatar of a pink ball thing.

Now for the important thing:

Yay! I've had Pillars of Eternity on my wish list since it came out, but have been waiting for the sale. That, and Rocksmith DLC are what I've got my steamy little eyes on.

If you can get some cards on the first day, you can get some significant sales on them. But, you've got like 30 minutes to an hour before prices plummet, that's for sure. :)

My wishlist for the upcoming sale (excluding things that are very recent releases):
Pillars of Eternity (for epic RPG action)
Xenonauts (because a re-skinned XCOM is still XCOM)
Kerbal Space Program (because I'd like my space opera to have a little less hand-waving)
Divinity: Original Sin (yet more RPG)
Homeworld Remastered (all of it in one spot, updated for modern machines. Cannot resist)
Hand of Fate (for the deck-building / brawler mashup)

Now, for the stuff that's still in Early Access:
Raven's Cry (because pirates are fun)
Dragon (because Dragons!)
Offworld Trading Company (nothing explodes, yet it seems pretty awesome)
Fractured Space (because capital ships are cool)

And the new stuff that probably won't get any discount at all:
Witcher 3 (because duh)
Galactic Civilizations 3 (because also duh)

Mind you, the Early Access list is only for stuff that's got excellent reviews and gets steeply discounted. Otherwise, they can wait. Not a fan of the black morass that Early Access has become, and I've never been a fan of pre-orders.

Anyway, that's about it. Looking forward to the inevitable sale. :)

I'm with you on Pillars of Eternity and Kerbal Space Program. I've also got my hopes up for sales on
Grim Fandango: Remastered
The Talos Principle
Tales from the Borderlands
And a whole bunch of small dev or indie games or rereleases of older stuff (Commander Keeeeen)

I'm pretty much "eh" on early access stuff. I put the interesting ones in my Follow list to keep an eye on them, but otherwise, I'll wait until the game's complete.

Anyone keeping an eye on the Steam hardware? I kinda want that controller, I'll be honest.

Oh, I got GC3 and was unimpressed, but...

For some reason, no 4X game has matched Masters of Orion 2 for me.

Oh, oh, oh, oh... Pillars of Eternity is on my list! Maybe GTA 5? I'm not too sure about that though.

I couldn't resist getting Kerbal Space Program a few weeks ago. It is a mixture of awesome and a bit randomly frustrating. But their cute widdle faces...

The only game I've considered getting on Early Access has been Audiosurf 2, because I thought that even if it had a few bugs, it could still be playable because of the kind of game it is. I did end up waiting until its release (and am enjoying it).

Oh noes! The dreaded Steam sale! Wherein I hand over the contents of my bank account to Steam in exchange for which my game list grows substantially and I spend all my time playing SWTOR anyway... >.<

Ha! Also guilty here. :D

Does anyone want a free copy of Limbo? I picked up the humble bundle (8 big name indie games for 6 dollars, yes please) and I've already got a copy. All my friends already have it too, so first one to ask gets the key. :)

I shouldn't get this excited for countdowns (yes, I'm looking at you Fallout), right?

Aaah, there're the sweetest deals. :D And a monster theme this year. And some kind of associated mini-game to earn unlocks. That's pretty cool.

Do I pounce on X-COM or Metro 2033 or do I wait?
Also what about Valkyrie Chronicles?

So many choices. Not enough money. And still so many times to go...

Thankfully I passed the first round unscathed. Phew. I'm just bracing myself for the Ubisoft games to hit, then I'm in trouble.

Anyone played that monster game yet? It's pretty arb.

Only buy when it's the daily deal or a flash sale, those're the best the deals will get. I usually limit myself to only buying at over 50% off. Like, Tales from the Borderlands is a daily deal, but it's only 50% off. I don't need it so bad that I can't wait for the next sale when it'll probably be more off. So I too made it through day 1 unscathed.

If it's not a Daily Deal and it's not a Flash Sale, then hold your money until the last day. If it IS a Flash or Daily, then that's the time to grab it. That advice seems to work about 95% of the time. Very, very rarely I've seen the Flashes become a Daily with a larger discount, but it's usually the same discount rate.

Yeah, efkelley said it better than I did. Buy on Daily or Flash if possible, then wait until the last day for the rest because if it didn't show up on flash or daily, then that's as low as it's gonna get.

Are you guys doing the monster game? I got on an awesome team for yesterday and we've gotten up to level 600+. We'll probably hit 700 before the day cycles.
