Smilie / Emoticon Poll

As part of the software upgrade, some of the familiar smilies were swapped for new versions.

This one:

:greenie

Has been replaced by this one:

We will keep both.

My question is:

Do I swap :greenie

with

so that if you type a : and D (no space between 'em) together it replaces them

Do I simply add a new code like : greenie (type a colon followed by greenie, no space) to display the beloved big green cheesy grin?

These are equally easy, so please vote for what you prefer.

I vastly prefer door number one

and D = grinning green smiley :greenie

) for a couple of reasons. I use it a LOT and it's a bit tiresome to click on the smilie button, then click on the more button, or having to type colon greenie. Also the new emoji looks vacuous, like Lindsay Lohan during a bender (see?-->

). And now all my old posts will have the vapid emoji instead of the cool greenie!

I'm not feeling the vapidity that Pasty gets from the little yellow big grin, but I do admit to being partial to greenie for : and D. It looks more like what I'm doing for when I use that particular letter combination.

Green grinnie for colon-D, for sure. If I have to dumpster-dive for an emoticon, I'm unlikely to bother for casual use. The new ones with open mouths all kinda look alike to these aging eyes.

There are several reasons to use colon D for the green grin, one I'm thinking of is so older posts will look the same.

Looks like I'm not the only one. The poll so far is 10 to 0 for this change. Aren't there any dissenters?

Older posts will suck in whatever Smilie/Emoji I associate a specific code with, so that's not a worry.

I'm perfectly willing to restore older versions, so those won't be "gone."

I've got 'em all saved.

The yellow one looks too much like the other yellow smilies. The green one is more unique.

Personally? I'd love to have all the old ones back. They may be clunky, they may not be stylish, but they have tons of personality, and are part of what make some of us feel at home here. Not sure it's worth the work or effort, and of course it's minor compared to almost everything else, but thought I'd put that out there.

Second, third, and fourth that! The old emoticons may be more "primitive" but they're also a lot more emotive and unique.

I like the green one. The yellow one is a bit insipid. I like all the old smilies. Although I'm quite happy to have extra ones added so long as old ones are not deleted.

I do like that the blushing smiley actually looks blushy.

But otherwise, I prefer our old ones for the basic smileys: yellow smile, green wide smile, blue wink, and pink tongue

Please keep colon D for the old model. Can we find out who cast the single vote against it and take the turncoat behind the water cooler and pour his or her pockets full?

Also, I vote green and the old ones. The new ones blend into the screen and are hard to see (for me).

I want the old smilies back, too, please. Hate the new ones, to be honest - they are too similar to each other, and not very expressive in the first place. The facial features are too small or something. I also want the green guy, yes.

? Glah, I am not typing "greenie" every time I want to grin, and as someone noted, it did break all the old posts that used the green guy (and various others) for visual effect. Count me as strongly preferring that the new emoticons get their own labels and our old ones keep their original names. Do I repeat myself? Very well, I repeat myself.
