I've connected my computer via Ethernet to the internet, so I can't try the wireless option.

USB printing seems not to work.
I installed all the drivers from the HP website after I used the installation from the CD. I troubleshoot the driver. It just will not print.

It prints its configuration page fine. But any order from the computer is simply ignored. Even though it has a green tick next to it and tells me it's installed properly and all drivers are up to date.

I've been googling this for several hours now (I am not even exaggerating) and nothing works.

My computer tells me it's a USB 2.0 device and my computer only has USB 3.0 ports.

But the internet keeps telling me that should not make a difference, since they're backwards compatible. (This is the only thing Windows troubleshooter tells me though, that some USB 2.0 aren't compatible with USB 3.0)

Is there anything else I can do? Are there USB drivers I could be missing?

It's a HP Laserjet P1102w and my computer is running Windows 8.1

I once had a major problem getting a new printer to work because I hadn't cleared the memory (it was brand new--I never thought about needing to clear the memory). Nowhere in the troubleshooting guide was clearing the memory mentioned.

I wouldn't think using a USB 3 port would matter.

If your printer has a control panel display I would start looking for any options and rereading the user's guide.

And most importantly, be patient.

I know it's probably annoying advice, but have you tried shutting everything down (both computer and printer) then starting it all back up again? Windows often seems to need a reboot to get things working properly even if it's not mentioned anywhere in the instructions.

At least ten times by now ;)

I've read the user manual.
I tried every USB port.
I changed cable.
I un-installed and re-installed.
I used the CD.
I used the website of HP and downloaded the drivers.
I let the HP assistant troubleshoot the printer - no problems.
I let Windows troubleshoot the printer - no problems, except for the USB port warning.
I let Windows pull the drivers automatically.
I updated the printer's firmware.

And at every step I re-started this computer and the printer.

I'm seriously stumped.

Ok, I am definitely lost now.

After all of the above. Several hours of googling and juggling drivers?

It just decided to work.

I don't understand what just happened. I just repeated one of the above mentioned steps for at least the third time.

And now it wants to print.

Well, I'm fine with that... thanks for the help :)

Problem solved (no idea how)
