Town council deliberates.

"There's passionate people who believe it should be changed and passionate people who believe it shouldn't be changed," said Sean Wallace, the town's director of economic development.

"It's been both famous and infamous."

The Tisdale survey does not deal with that aspect of the controversy, but notes that today, organic rapeseed accounts for less than one per cent of the crops grown in the region. Canola is now king.

For that matter, honey production has decreased significantly, too.

The Land of Canola just doesn't have the same ring.

Uhhhh . . . this might just be the dumbest thing I've seen in a long time in a journalistic story. everyone is aware that rape and canola are synonymous, right? It's the same damn plant, grown for exactly the same damn products.

Canola is a breed of rapeseed that was developed in Canada. They are distinguishing the organic rape and the synthetic canola.

Well, it's not entirely synthetic. It was GMO'd oldschool using selective breeding.

But then Monsanto started producing "Round Up Ready" seeds...

Okay, nevermind. Synthetic, it is.

Member of the mustard family isn't it, along with cabbage and so on? And do they have any dairies or egg farms in the area? So many the land of mustard and custard?

Agorism FTW!
It must be nice to live in so idyllic a place that the most pressing problem the town council faces is revamping a linguistically-outmoded town slogan.
