In the early 1800s some people earned money by digging up corpses and selling them to doctors for studying human anatomy. Two major places where this happened were Edinburgh and London.
I think I remember there was a famous body snatcher who frequently transported the body sitting next to him on the seat of a carriage or wagon. I don't think I'm thinking of Burke and Hare.
