So an Ottawa teen has been charged for three dozen swattings, resulting in sixty charges. His hacker friends have decided to respond, defacing the websites of Supreme Court of Canada, Ottawa Police Department and RCMP. The group calls themselves Aerith (really, Final Fantasy?) and claim that they are associated with Anonymous. That's nice.

Swatting is contacting a police force and provide false information of a dangerous situation at a bullied individual's address. A SWAT team then visits that address.

I'm sure his 'friends' are playing it safe behind eleven proxies and all, but all that encryption won't matter for piss when he sings. As seen in the hilarisad end of Silk Road. Any super-sekrit black op is as weak as its dumbest member.

I am offended that the hackers used my favorite dancing banana .gif.

I'm offended that they hackers used my favourite character. They're defacing her reputation! D:

I remember watching a swatted video on youtube, and after they presumably busted him for nothing... they then discovered that he had drugs in his dormroom. The length that people go through (okay so it's probably not that hard to swat someone, but really) when they've just been one-upped in a video game speaks leaps and bounds for their maturity.

(Totally did not mean for that to sound as pretentious as it did)

The Twitter account name makes me believe they were probably using TOR.

Also, people are fucking idiots.

I just now saw this thread, so I googled for more info and found more articles. The first two are from the same day as the one in the OP, but have a little more info.

The teen's father has been in contact with Anonymous some creep on the Internet who has him believing there was a listening device in one of his light bulbs and that they have evidence his son is innocent.

(these two articles have near-identical information)

Here's another story from the next day - the teen was arrested May 8th, and the trial is scheduled for June 10th:
