I validated mine too! It's about 350 words less than the word count in MS Word.

Wow! You guys are incredible! I got to 50K about 3-4 days ago but I can't stop fiddling with it. Yesterday I went back and added 3 short scenes that I decided were needed, and cut some other stuff, so I was still working on it. More along the lines of editing, I guess. I was scolded by Nano purists when I mentioned I'd cut a bunch of back story scenes, lol.

Anyway, I consider it done for now....the first draft, that is.

I hit 50k today. For some reason, Word has my count at 50,088 and Nano has it at 50,116. Weird.

Book is nowhere near done. I'm thinking the total word count will be 90-100k.

I validated my word count, and the NaNo counter landed between Scrivener and MS Word...
Scrivener: 94,086
NaNo: 93,888
Word: 93,673

I figure the story has 10-15k to go. I hope to do that over the weekend.

It cut off about 300 words, and that was with Scrivener. That's probably from all the hyphenated words, which Scrivener counts as two words

Get a similar thing with Word. Before validating my text I took out all my em dashes, and that made the word count on NaNoWriMo a lot closer to the Word word count with em dashes. I didn't worry about the hyphens, because I was well enough over to validate. Anyway, hyphenated words are one word aren't they? Well maybe sometimes and sometimes not.

I ought to check my count versus Word. It always adds a few for me. Still a few days out from done, but I'm curious now.

Edit: One. A whopping 1 word difference. Yeesh. Accurate!

I validated today! YAY! 51K, which was a tad over what word said I had.
Part of what helped me push over the edge today was when I woke up and realized this story was about the wrong people, and had the wrong narrator. I breezed through two new opening chapters and validated, now onto the task of re-writing from the new narrators POV.

Just validated! Came in at 5 extra words, Lol!

My travel plans for the day have fallen through due to snow, so I'm aiming at that beautiful 50k by the end of the day.

I swear I'm not trying to milk it, but I finally made my self-imposed goal of finishing a complete draft of my book early this morning 71,000 words and validated, with 10,000 of those words in the last 2 days!

Someone put on The Final Countdown for me. 50k, I'm coming for ya!

Still a long way to go on the novel, but Mount NaNo has ben conquered yet another year.
