Recently an editor reviewed my book proposal and didn't like the books I'd selected as comparisons. She said I needed at least three books representing the following:
1. extreme sports, preferably kayaking, or water-related
2. woman-finding herself (I have Cheryl Strayed's WILD, but she pointed out that half of all memoirs she sees these days use that book a comp).
3. a fish-out-of-water, cultural experience book
I found a surf book called CAUGHT INSIDE for number one, but she said nobody had heard of it. Any ideas of popular books in these categories?
Thanks for your thoughts! And if there's a more appropriate place to post, please let me know.
