Hi, I'm new here, but not new to querying.

A few days ago, I got a request from an online pitch contest (Pitch Slam) from Broadland Literary Agency.
http://broadlandliterary.com/

I'm not quite sure what to make of this agent or agency. Both seem to be very new. (Plus it's in England, looking for local writers, and I'm in California.)

Does anyone have any information that could help me make a decision on this?

From what I can glean from their website, Lisa Jane Weller is the only agent, and has no experience at any agencies or major publishing houses. She edited some magazines and managed an "independent" publishing house, which could mean anything. So far, she has one author whose work is supposedly "on submission."

She charges the usual 15% and no reading fees, so those are both plusses.

My opinion? Steer clear until she makes some sales to some major publishing houses.

What Popgun said. Let Ms. Weller learn her business on other people's books.

She said she liked my sample pages and the characters were likable, but the work felt too similar to a project she currently reps and wants to keep her list small.

Thought I'd share.

I'd be more impressed if they had actually sold to some of the major UK publishers

I wanted to let people know about my experience with Lisa Weller.

I queried my YA contemporary romance, and she requested the full. At the time, she made it clear she's new, but that she's eager to make her mark as an agent. She told me she had 3 authors, 2 on sub, and that if I wasn't interested in a new agent, she understood. I sent the full.

She offered an R&R. The suggestions she made were concise, politely phrased, and made sense for the MS (all but one).

I haven't decided if I'll resubmit, since that one point is a stickler for me, but I wanted people to know that she comes across as someone who knows what she's doing, is exceedingly professional, and kind.

I think she'll do well.
