Morgan-Short-Hair-Painted_edited-1-Smaller_zpsoa0nthlr.jpg

Art is my hobby to the writing, and I prefer to draw/paint my characters (I resized them to be under 400x400, so hopefully that worked out). The top one is one of the youngest of my cast, a sixteen year old named Sarah, and the bottom one is my main character Morgan (though her hair is more usually much longer and braided).

I don't really do book covers, though. I have difficulty with graphic design.

So many gorgeous pictures!! I don't think of myself as an artist, I'm pretty hopeless with traditional media other than regular graphite pencil. I do enjoy drawing with computer software though, with programmes such as adobe photoshop or SAI.

This is a work in progress of a television show that was kind of a mainstay in my childhood. I recently purchased the DVD set and fell in love all over again lol. Hopefully people who know the show can tell what it is, for those who don't, it's Mysterious Cities of Gold, a tale of a young orphaned boy brought up in a Spanish monastery, who sets off on a journey with a very diverse group of friends to find El Dorado and hopefully his father.

Gorgeous work, ExiledStar! I love seeing great abstracts...novice painters always seem to assume abstracts are 'easy' to paint. I've found it's the opposite: composition errors show up even more clearly without a pretty tree or face to distract the eye.

Whenever I need to show images on AW, I copy over the image URL from my site on Photobucket, and make sure the images are under 400 pixels in any direction. That seems to work.

I have stuff to add since the last time I was here: another online art portal, this time with sales potential. See my sig below for some nifty mosaics and tapestries. I'll be adding paintings and jewelry at some point.

You all have some awesome drawings/paintings here!

Natea, I loved your painting. It looks like the cover of an epic novel :)

And, after years of failed attempts and discarded drafts, I finally came up with a design I actually loved, so here's my troublemaker, Iliadan.

I wouldn't call myself an author/artist. But I'd like to be! I started learning to draw for real a few months ago. I've always doodled and stuff, so I took that as a sign that I should get a new hobby.

Hah, I even have a youtube channel that's going to record my progress.

I'm not very good yet, but I am getting there. ;)

Hi all;

Some very nice pieces in this thread. Altiv, I love your troublemaker!

Yes, I'm also an author and artist. I've been a freelance illustrator most of my adult life. In the 80s and 90s, I did book cover designs for some of the big NY publishers (Tor, Doubleday, etc), mostly F&SF. Did a few movie posters for New Line, a single issue of Neil Gaiman's Sandman, and the graphic novel version of Anne Rice's The Witching Hour. I only started writing seriously about nine or ten years ago.

Although I've worked in comics, the main crossover between my two passions came last year, when my novel Darkwalker was published by a small press, and I got the chance to create my own cover.

I'm now art director for two small presses (Pink Narcissus and Necon Ebooks), and my partner and I provide affordable cover designs for small, indie, and self publishers through our website at http://corviddesign.com

If anyone's interested in seeing my other work, here's a few links:

Pencil artist and digital artist here but I never do my own artwork for books (other than I did include one image inside my latest collection) and I do use my photos or others for the covers create for my work. Unfortunately I haven't actually pick up a pencil seriously in over a year. :( I should probably do that a bit in the coming months...

@ PlasmicSteve Your cover looks beautiful. I love the composition and colors.

*Waves hand frantically* Oh, oh I am! I dabble mostly in digital painting and comics, but I've taken up a little bit of graphic design to create my own covers. In the spring I start college and hope to major in computer graphics (animation and coding). :D
Thanks to crits from other AW members, I created this:

Writer/Designer

I've been a writer for...oh, longer than I can remember! I'm also a graphic designer and I've been doing my own covers since I started self-publishing. I mostly use Photoshop. Those of you who draw by hand and do illustration are truly gifted, I must say!

I also make covers for other authors. I like to make the covers so they match up with the story inside.

Recently updated my website and my portfolio of work: http://www.cynthiavespia.com/graphic-design-portfolio

It's fun. A different type of creativity.

It's so neat to see the array of skills here! I'm an editorial and comic artist mostly but I do some writing on the side as well; usually editorial pieces but I'm trying to break into fiction writing. I've found that I actually don't like doing the artwork for my own writing though. I think I get too immersed in the writing and be an effective artist. Plus, I like seeing someone else's visual take on my work. Anyone else have that?

I much prefer to create artwork for other writers and art directing where I get to collaborate with both sides. Here are some covers and interiors I've done:

My husband (who is an illustrator for video games) and I also run a small custom cover business on the side specifically for illustrated covers: http://crowsnestcovers.com/

(I hope I followed the image display rules appropriately!)

Wow. Lovely artwork everyone. I'm a graphic design major, though my focus is illustration. The prospect of doing book covers terrified me. I don't think I could do one justice.

I have art on my instagram, which is in the bio. I'm on mobile now, so I can't post art to here ATM 😔

I do a lot of different creative stuff. I do a lot of design with cloth - garments, bags - stuff like that. I'm a n00b at graphic design, but you can see two examples of my cover art here:

Sketch and digital paint artist. I dabble in graphic design and I am an author.
I have very a particular wish to marry my illustration and graphic design with my stories.
I'm keeping myself open to working with better artists.
