Hi all I'm new hope to conciliate

A little about me. 44 year old male. Trying to publish a first novel in Junior Fiction or Young Adult. The whole thing is written its now just in various stages of editing. Progress often comes depending on mood and music playing. I'm one that I guess needs background noise. Many genera's. Curious what others have playlists for playlists that are sometimes essential to writing habits. My lists are diverse and include the likes of everything to and from Iron Maiden to Phil Collins to George Frederick Handel. So curious about that if other writers looked like me in that regard. What inspires you to just get started and get into it?

I personally need to have music playing when I write anything. My preference is music without lyrics. Instrumentals. Video game scores.

I, too, prefer instrumentals for writing, or, at least, something in a language I don't speak. I do have a special fondness for the Vitamin String Quartet in all of its iterations, as well as the music from Final Fantasy.

Like you....

I just recently published my first novel in October.

Regarding music - I'm all over the place. Recently - the Spotify Station Browser is my go-to place for music - just pick a mood or genre and it'll spill out a good number of tracks to fit the soundtrack I need.

I am one of those odd balls that absolutely cannot write with music in the background, especially if the music has lyrics too. I get too easily distracted.

Oddly enough, I write just fine with the TV on, or in a busy coffee shop, or when my husband is snoring next to me in bed. I guess I just associate it with white noise.

Hi there, Viking! Interesting topic, and you ought to repost this in the Pub section. A few days ago we were throwing a lot of music links at one another!

I'm very inspired by music, and most of my characters and scenes have theme music I listen to. I'm writing a romance (it didn't start as one, but took off in that direction) and I have pretty diverse music playing for it, too. I'm eclectic in that area anyway, and will listen to Gregorian chant, Baroque, 80's new wave, eastern European music, Russian ska, Celtic, bluegrass...you name it. Not too big on rap or modern jazz, though...
