What's your GPU? It might be the limited factor here.

Interesting, I just pulled up the Belarc for my new rig and it's telling me the aftermarket NVIDIA card I installed wasn't picked up in the scan... very weird. The onboard card, Radeon HD 7450 is what it's finding, very weird.

550ti is a decent card. Was a great budget card two years ago.
7450... well, not so much at all.

Rip open the computer to see for yourself.
Could you be running both cards?

*derails the derail, but only for a moment*

I've gotten the go-ahead for borrowing money from mum. Not sure exactly what her limit is, but she was only mildly fazed by the prospect of $1k, and seemed fine with the prospect of the $800-ish I'm expecting to go for. (Especially as I'll be able to pay $200 deposit and probably the same again with Christmas money, effectively slashing the loan in half within a month.)

So yes... Still weighing up my options at this point.

Carry on with the geek talk. It's entertaining. :tongue

Well it IS tis the season no matter where you live or your religous persuasion there WILL be great sales sometime between thursday of this week and new years and I've oft been told that this IS the best time of the year to purchase electronics.

Sooooo with that in mind it's really not much of a derail, it looks like there are quite a few of us that are in search and shop mode for computer parts. Better to know what's out there, and what to avoid, so you can make the best purchase for your needs!

I agree, but then again if it was the 7450 that was running by itself this past week well it performed and quite well considering what I was throwing at it, if it was a human it would have been screaming uncle! ;)

Will take a look see sometime this week, got a LOT on my plate for later today.
