Seriously. Everyone is advising I have it. Many agents/publishers are almost demanding it. I actually have multiple internet personalities, several of which have gotten me writing assignments (Non-fiction nearly demands a known authority or popular presence for sales to occur). None of these personalities are heavy social media users, no Twitter (I have hundreds of followers and have never posted a tweet), no Facebook (a thousand friends and climbing, but I never post) and no LinkedIn (I'm linked to most of the planet and all I get is additional spam).
So, I have all of these social media accounts and never post anything about my work. It seems like I'm actively trying to keep my work hidden. Which is sort of okay in my non-fiction niches, but I'm getting ready to launch into fiction work. Pretty heavily, as in income dependent on writing. So, do I really NEED a social media (Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Pintrest, LinkedIn, etc.) presence?
