AW. A very nice place!
... with a machine gun,
on seemingly trumped up charges.
Members of other NK pop groups forced to watch the
execution. One victim was a former fling of Kim Jong's.
His present wife used to be in the same band, herself,
ushering in further speculation as to the true motivation.

And here I was considering what happened to
P*ssy Riot bad. Makes Russia seem saintly by
comparison.

Hyon, a singer with the Unhasu Orchestra, was among those arrested on August 17 for violating domestic laws on pornography.
All 12 were machine-gunned three days later, with other members of North Korea's most famous pop groups and their immediate families forced to watch.

Does this tie in with the rumor about Kim Jong Un's ex-lover?

I seem to recall that she was supposed to be a musician or singer.

... is there another thread on this in PC&E?
Am restricted from that forum.
Plz delete this one if the topic has already been covered there.
Apologies.

There's overlap, Ken. But the other thread started over a rumor reported by Fox News that Kim Jong Un's ex-lover was executed by firing squad. The rumor itself is unconfirmed.

As I said, I have this memory that she was a musician or a singer. So perhaps the two corroborate a bit.

... definitely a singer.
That much is sure.

Hyon's band was responsible for a string of patriotic hits in North Korea, including "Footsteps of Soldiers," "I Love Pyongyang," "She is a Discharged Soldier" and "We are Troops of the Party." Her popularity reportedly peaked in 2005 with the song "Excellent Horse-Like Lady."

Whether they were linked isn't:

Hyon Song-wol, a singer, rumoured to be a former lover of the North Korean leader

The Fox article is nearly identical to the Telegraph one.
Kind of an abridgement. Maybe both came from the same source.

Without making a judgment, there do seem to be some questions about the credibility of the source for this story.

If it's legit, we'll probably hear more. If it isn't, it will vanish like morning fog at sunrise.

Unfortunately, it's a normal thing to get shot down like such in North Korea. It's not just the musicians who are executed. This must be getting some media coverage because the person was close to their leader.

I suppose it's preferable to being sent to a worker's camp and never heard from again. How... kind.
