I'm going on vacation in a few weeks. Much of the time I'll be working on the WIP on the lakeshore. Ahh. But I also want to read, which I don't get enough time for.

For those of you who like angst on the page, what are your go-to fantasy, mystery, and even horror titles? (No romance or hard SF, please--they're not my style.) Old and new, adult and YA.

the best example I can give is The Curse of Chalion. (Cazaril  :e2cry:) Right now, manga is my go-to for an angst hit. But they're quick reads, and I don't want to pack a lot of books.

Make me lie: "I have allergies; that's why I'm all teary-eyed."

Thank you in advance!

Sunny Diary Three by Ann M Martin. Basically in this book, Sunny's mom, who had been ailing throughout the series, comes home to die and it delves into Sunny's feelings about all this. Don't be intimidated by it being part of a series: it totally can be read as a stand-alone and it's heart-wrenching. I can't recommend it enough.
