Hi everyone!

I've been reading a few of the threads here, and have had many of my questions answered.

What I would really like to know now is the difference between editing and proofreading and what, specifically, I need to do to secure a job as either; schooling, interning, publishing something, etc.

I thought getting an associate degree in the arts then transferring to a four year would be the way to go so I checked with my local junior college, but they were no help at all.

I love reading and writing and want to persue some kind of career in the field.

Any thoughts and experiences would be greatly appreciated! :Sun:

Here are a couple of links to get you started.

Those might or might not clarify the differences between the various editing jobs.

As for what's the best route into the job: usually, a good degree in a related subject (it doesn't have to be English or publishing; I can see almost anything being useful; I've worked with people who had degrees in history, politics, maths, geography and astro-physics); then a succession of internships. Taking courses from ChapterHouse isn't going to help; taking courses from the UK's Society of Editing and Proofreading might.

Good luck.
