Well hello everyone, this seems like a very active community!
I suppose I should start by telling a bit about me. My name is Kyler. I hail from the beautiful land of Southern Utah, tho I have spent a few years running around the globe (mostly around the US.) I now reside in the northern part of the same state, with my beautiful wife and our two amazing dogs. (A Husky and a Corgi, named Sam and Fenchurch respectively.)
I have been a story teller since I was very young, and I have always dreamed of sharing those stories with others. I marveled at the way a good author can change my outlook and actions so profoundly, and have always wanted to be able to share my idea's and stories with people in such an intimate way.
However I joined the Marine Corps directly after high school, turning down a few scholarships and other opportunities. I joined because I felt a need to give back to this great nation, and because I perceived it as a patriotic act. I served a total of 5 years, and was medically discharged 2 years ago. $10,000,000 dollars couldn't tempt me to do it again, but on the same note I wouldn't give up the experience for anything on this earth.
Before I served I did a lot of writing. I was very good at it too, and I was weaving several worlds out of the aether. Sadly I found that the life of a Marine is not conducive to any sort of creative endeavor (as some of you reading this may guess.) It was however an excellent time to learn and grow as a person. Another pleasant side effect of my 7 year hiatus is that it gave many of my older stories time to mature, and new stories to spring up!
The writing of those stories has gradually become more of a primal need. However not picking up a pen in 7 years has had a very negative effect on my writing abilities. The last few weeks as I have tried to get back into the flow of things, I find my self writing a paragraph, then destroying it because its "not up to snuff." So now I come to the point.
I have joined this group with several goals in mind. First of all, I want to get to know more writers. I love talking with people who share the same creative spark! I also joined with the goal of possibly getting writing prompts, posting what I'm currently working on, and getting lots of practice. I need to shake the dust off of that portion of my brain labeled "Creative Expression." I also want to give and receive feedback on my work and the works of others. A person can only improve so much in a vacuum.
There are many other reasons, but they are simply too numerous to list here, and I feel this post is far too long already.
Well, you made it all the way through my long-winded introduction. Sorry for rattling on like that. Thanks for taking the time to get to know me a little. To the Admins: Thank you so much for allowing me to join your community. I have already looked over the Newbie section today, and have read a few of the FAQ's.
I cant wait to talk with all of you!
