I've never taken the time to read Pearl Buck, but the idea of a completed manuscript (in two versions, no less) making it through the cracks unknown to her family is fascinating (I'll need to acquaint myself with her and then read the new one, I think).

I almost feel like the book's story may be better than the story in the book. Just make the book a crabby old lady with a heart of gold and add in some Milo and Otis voiceover work and I smell an Oscar.

I read the Good Earth in high school and remember liking it, plus it got approval from the Chinese-American classmates for accuracy.
