Need a little help. :)

I'm currently writing a scene, where two people are riding the same horse. There is a term I remember reading in a Jean Plaidy book, but I seem to have aphasia this morning. The book itself is packed away in (one of many) boxes in storage, and Google is of no help.

I think it could be a medieval term, and think it may begin with a 'c.' I can see a sentence that goes along the lines of 'riding _______.'

Ideas? My head is beginning to hurt.

Riding double is the simple term.

Also, we have many horse threads in Story Research and a few discussions on riding double and the realities of it there.

Are you thinking of cantle -- the raised part of the back of the saddle?

I didn't have much trouble finding that stuff on Google, but I will definitely have a look at the threads.

The nice thing about the horse threads is we bust a lot of myths along with giving practical advice :)
