Hello there,

I am wondering whether I should include citations in my book proposal (for a self help book) when I include the sample chapters. If so, is there a format that tends to be preferred?

Thank you!

I would include them in the sample of your best guess is that they should be included int he book. And use a standard style guide to decide how to do it. I would suggest endnotes for each chapter.

Pick a style book (The Chicago Manual of Style is one) and use it consistently. Alternately, you can pick a non-fic book you've used as a reference and copy it's mode of footnoting/endnoting.
