Lauren Strasnick is often mentioned in the YA world for having really low wordcounts. Nothing Like You is only 38k and Her and Me and You is 24k (!!!). They're very much YA, though. No upper MG here.

I had to mention Lisa McMann. No straight contemps (paranormal, thrillers, horror), but all of them seem to be around 50k.
