    "American" and "Caucasian" are capitalized because they derive from geographical areas that are already proper nouns.

    Absolutely.

    By the same token, we capitalize Martians because they come from Mars, but we don't capitalize aliens unless we're sure they arrived from the planet Alien.

    I would do. you meant they are kind of people or living things, they are new category. if you do not capitallize them, people would think it just a normal word, but it really has no mormal meaning.
