Not author book promotion. Porting to BR&BC for discussion and information requests. Keep strapped in, folks; this'll take just a moment.

Unlike many of the high entry fee ($75 in this case) contests targeting self-published and small press writers--most of which are designed primarily to make money for their sponsors--Next Generation actually offers meaningful prizes and names its judges. That's not an endorsement, though. IMO, your time is almost always better spent seeking publication than submitting to awards, especially if you have to pay a premium to enter.

    Indie Book Awards?

I don't know if this is the right place to put this, but I had a question about the Indie Book Awards post in the Paying Markets section of the forum. I did a forum search for the Bewares, Recommendations, and Background Check forum, and the only mention I could find of it was a direct link to the post where the contest information is at.

Has anyone here put in an entry to the Next Generation Indie Books Awards? If so, what was your experience with it and would you recommend it to other people? I was thinking about giving it a shot, but I think it's pretty steep to charge $75 for one entry, plus another $50 for any other titles you want to add. It raised a red flag with me because they call themselves a not-for-profit contest, but they charge fees to enter. I did a google search on the contest, but all I could find was a Writer Beware post from the first contest in 2008 which suggested against entering it.

Contests and publishers don't usually change from being something Writer Beware recommends against, to being something worth doing. I'd assume the advice from Writer Beware still stands.
