I was wondering if anyone could inform me of some publishers who accept YA fiction, please? While I am in no way ready to publish yet, I wanted to begin doing my research.

Most major publishing houses have a YA imprint. There are some smaller presses which specialise in YA, and others which won't touch it with a bargepole.

Your best bet is to get a copy of the Writer and Artists year book and have look at that - it breaks down who handles what.

That said, I would advise looking for an agent first if possible - many publishers don't take unagented submissions.

Assuming you're well-read in the genre, good publishers have put out books you've heard of. (Or at the very least, books you could find by browsing your local book store or library.) If you really want to know the publishers' names, open up your favorite YA books and look at the title pages.

However, I would back up and start your research at simply learning how the publishing industry works. Do you know what first rights are? Are you familiar with the difference between that and copyright? Do you know what an agent does and if you plan to seek one? There's tons of scams out there and tons more fledgling publishers who mean well but would ultimately do you more harm than good. Knowing how things are supposed to work protects you from these pitfalls.

I suggest checking out Writer Beware to get started:

Most importantly, though, don't let your research time overshadow your writing time. Write and polish that manuscript until it shines, then decide where you'll submit.

Best of luck! :)

A better question to ask might be which good agents handle YA fiction.

It'll depend in part on word count and genre. Write the first draft. When you get to The End, then start researching publishers.
