Oh gosh, I've always had crushes on fictional characters, I seem to have a particular weakness for them. A quick list:

Ford Prefect, Aragorn, Legolas, Spike Spiegal, Nicholas Wolfwood, Remus Lupin, Fox Mulder, Prince Zuko, Cuthbert from the Dark Tower series, Nick Andros, Data (don't ask), Charlie Parker, Garrus, Alastair from Dragon Age, Fenris from Dragon Age 2 (damn you, Bioware!), Atticus Finch...

And one of the MCs from the book I'm editing at the moment. Sometimes it's tempting to try and detect a pattern in that list, but then I back away slowly instead.

Harry Dresden. Can't believe no one's mentioned him yet. Brave, reckless, charming, great with the one-liners...and that irrepressible urge to rescue any damsel in distress. Even if she's perfectly capable of rescuing herself.

Video games, yes, I also fancy Alistair from Dragon Age.

And Leon from Resident Evil 4. Hubba hubba...

sennydreadful - I've only played it all the way through once, and I was hoping to marry him but he dumped me when he became King - gutting!

Not sure what I did wrong there so I need to play it through again to get a more pleasing outcome!

That happened to me on my first playthrough! I sulked for about a week... Basically, you can only marry him if you don't make him king, or if you are a highborn human. OR, if you make a decision earlier in the game that forces Alastair to be a bit more cynical, you can convince him to marry Anora and keep you on as a mistress.

As you might have guessed, I have played this game too much. 0_0

Gosh, I always crush on fictional characters. What's the point otherwise? You have to relate. This also goes for game characters. I have to agree with Alastair in Dragon Age too!
When I write, I feel like I have to have strong feelings for my characters. Usually this means crushing on my main male lead and putting a little of myself in the female leads.
That's what I love about writing... being able to live all these lives and have all these different and remarkable relationships.

Dragon Age: Origins is my favourite game. I've spent around a couple of thousand hours on it, at least. I always choose Alistair, too. :) My profile pic is my City Elf rogue.

You can't marry him unless he's king, and you're playing as the Human Noble female. Other origins can either be his mistress or simply continue being his love interest. It's one of my gripes about the game -- Alistair explains that he can't marry your character because as king he's required to produce an heir, and it's next to impossible for one Grey Warden to have a child, let alone two of them together. However, this explanation is completely ignored if you're the Human Noble - then, it's all, "Yay, married, and isn't it great we already got a head start on the baby making!" Boo!

I always choose to make Anora queen on her own, and go off to continue being a Grey Warden with an unhardened Alistair.

I played as the human noble, and all was going hunky dory - I never suggested he marry Anora, or that Anora is queen, but then he became king and dumped me because two Grey Wardens can't have babies.

I think I must have chosen a speech option to piss him off somewhere along the line.

He is impossible to resist! I've played that game gawd knows how many times now and I always end up romancing Alastair. >_<

Every time I start a new game I am RESOLVED to romance another character.

...end up losing my nerve and romancing Alistair EVERY TIME. I just can't help it. *squishes him*

I didn't write at all tonight. Finished my game on Dishonored and then started a new game on Dragon Age - purely because of this thread.
I thought this forum would be a good influence, not bad....!

Who knew so many Dragon Age fans would be posting in this thread!

We could start an Alistair fan club...

<snip>Fenris from Dragon Age 2 (damn you, Bioware!)</snip>

You can have Fenris as long as I get to keep Anders. GOD, I love that tortured mage in a totally unhealthy way.

(Okay, the Fenris rivalmance is pretty damn awesome, too.)

(And I also love Isabela.)

I'm covering my eyes for the rest of this thread since I bought DA: Origins and was having issues running it on my dinosaur of a computer. This, uh, may or may not have hastened the purchasing of a new machine...nope...not at all....

Oh Fenris, with his temper and his brooding and that voice. Hubba hubba. When I saw the initial character design I thought he looked a bit daft, but as soon as he opened his mouth... damn. <3

All these Dragon Age fans! Can we have a fan club? Because I really need some sort of outlet for my Alastair obsession (strangely, my boyfriend gets tired of hearing about it) and we can have badges and secret passwords and stuff. ;)

I spy a Grey Warden griffin! ;) I think my favourite outcome was where I married Alastair & became queen. I spent weeks prancing around proclaiming myself High Queen of Ferelden.

Written in white text to not spoil TheaBlowsKisses - highlight the following to read: :)

Did you harden Alistair, and then have him duel and execute Loghain? In that scenario, he takes the throne without any further dialogue.

The possible outcomes of the Landsmeet (along with everything else about the game) are described at the excellent Dragon Age Wiki.

Edit: sennydreadful - yup. :) And my user title (under my name just to the left of this post) should be pronounced as Bann Teagan says it. :D I could talk your ear off about DA: Origins, if you give me the chance. :D And now I'm going to go and play the game! :)

I had a minor crush on the male main character in my current WIP until I realized that he's equally as crazy as the antagonist (his cousin), just in a morally acceptable way . . .

The MC's cousin is emotionally distant and has outbursts of violence. The MC is emotionally distant, but it manifests itself in humor. Instead of having outbursts of violence, he has outbursts of self-indulgent martyr-like behavior. But, hey, he has a good cause: freeing slaves. So what's it matter if he's willing to die and abandon his daughter for it?

You know, after finishing the WIP a few days after writing this and starting the editing process, I have fallen back in love with Everett. Yes, he is a little insane, but I love him anyway. His perseverance and compassion won me over by the end. He overcame the martyr syndrome and vanity.

Yes, I do know he isn't real.

At this point, I think I'm crushing on at least three of my characters. My boyfriend jokingly accused me of this, and I blushed bright red.

Geez...one of them is supposed to be 17 years old. The other one is a bit promiscuous and the third is just freaking hotness.

Yes, I also know they're not real.

I don't know if it qualifies as a crush, but while I was writing TMC, I did have a, "Hell, yeah!" reaction every time I got to work with Vorticose. I say I'm not sure it's a crush because if I saw this guy coming IRL I'd hide from him.
