    Red Dawn remake

Could have been much worse, but could have and should have been much better. The acting and some of the humor and action scenes save it from being a total mess, but this is still a major disapointment. Deserves higher than 11% on Rotten Tomatoes though for sure. Low 40s at least.

    So anyone else see it?

I've never seen the original and I'm not compelled to see the remake, either.

I think I might see it. Haven't yet, though.

Yeah, I'm just not interested, not even with Chris H. in it.

I hope they didn't miss including the innocence of the children the first one had.

Heard a radio review that said it was made quite awhile ago and shelved. The original invading country was China, but for reasons unrevealed they switched it to North Korea, played with certain details (CGI?), and released it.

I'd love to know the back-room reasons for not changing the villain.

Not seeing it, here. I disliked the original, so no reason to see the remake.

Lily - From the scuttlebutt I heard, they changed the villain from China because they hoped to be able to sell the movie TO China. And the Chinese were a little pissed about being the bad guys.

*snerk* But since China's friendly with NK, do the filmmakers hope China will buy the movie so they can point and laugh and go "Neener! Pretty US white boys kicked your butts!"

Yes, it was made in 2009 and shelved because the studio went bankrupt. A different company bought the redistribution rights.

The bankruptcy of ideas in Hollywood is revealed with great clarity by this film. I can hardly wait for the remake of Ishtar.

I saw the original. If they were going to remake and update it, they should have gone all the way and set it in Afganistan. Or Iran. Okay, they don't have American football, but the teens could have been soccer players or cricketers.
