So, I won an Emmy. How's your week?

Forgive me for gushing but I'm pretty happy. I just found out that I won an Emmy Award for technological achievement in live broadcast. (some of you may remember, I work in TV)

I go to Vegas in January for the Banquet and awards ceremony.

Not trying to brag.... ( ) But, I do wonder, is there any way I can use this to help my writing career?

    Congratulations!

I am sure you can use it in some way to help your writing career. Not sure how, but an accomplishment like this is worth a lot. Way to go!

Yes, because you can go to the Banquet, pick up with a famous tv star, have a torrid affair and then write a tell-all about it.

Congrats on the Emmy. Great stuff!

Congrats! That's mondo cool! Will there be a broadcast and can we see you on it?

As for whether or not it can help your writing--have you considered setting a novel in that industry, with a character who does something of what you do? Having an Emmy would certainly catch an agent's attention then.

Its a technical achievment Emmy award, so I don't know who exactly will be there. I've never done something like this before so I don't know what to expect.

I work very close with Disney and ABC and in my packet, it says I'll be joined by the CEO of my company, the CTO, CFO and "key high level customers". I already have extremely high level contacts within Disney, so if I get to meet some new people, that might be an interesting "IN".

It will be open bar, so maybe I can slip in a "yeah, I write manuscripts on the side" to some people

Also, I wrote a novel based on the technologies that won me the Emmy, so I'm thinking that would make a good couple of extra lines in the Bio section of a query letter.

ETA: My wife is thrilled for two reasons. 1. She gets to dress up. 2. She gets to buy a new dress, to dress up.
