Thinking Like Your Editor: How to Write Serious Nonfiction - and Get It Published by Susan Rabiner and Alfred Fortunato.

I also like Jeff Herman's book proposal book and have used it many times. I also recommend my books--"How to Write a Book Proposal in 8 Days or Less" based on my online book proposal classes and "The Right Way to Write, Publish and Sell Your Book." This one is brand new. It contains 328-pages of what you need to know in order to write, publish (no matter what publishing style you choose) and sell (promote) your book. You won't be disappointed in this one.

I liked Damn! Why Didn't I Write That? by Marc McCutcheon

Here's a wonderful book by Rudy Shur: "How to Publish Your Nonfiction Book: a complete guide to getting the right publisher to say yes."

I also like that book. I should go back and re-read it now that I'm farther along in my writing career, but it's great for motivation, even in the very early stages.

Thinking Like Your editor is the best

For serious non-fiction I used, "Thinking Like Your Editor" and I highly recomend it.
