Any suggestions as to how I could phrase it?
'Dear HC, as I received three rejections for two submissions, does that mean one of my submissions is still waiting for its second rejection?'
Or: 'Dear HC, as one of the many Jane Ds who submitted, have the three rejections I received been in relation to the books submitted by the Jane D who lives in France with lots of children and a crazy dog, or by three of the other Jane Ds'?'
Maybe something along the lines of....
"Dear HV, I received three rejections, though I only submitted two manuscripts, so I wanted to clarify that one or both were actually rejected, or if there was some kind of error, hence the reason for the multiple rejections? I have a common name, so I also wanted to double check in case there was some kind of mix-up. Thank you for your time, blah blah.." Minus the blah blah's, though. You catch my drift!
Maybe something along the lines of....

I thought the blah blahs were quite effective. Your version does sound more diplomatic than mine. Thanks, I'll drop them a line.
@Jane: Your diagnosis was stunningly accurate! Are you sure you're the writer and not actually the psychic?
Oh, and I do agree that you should inquire. Normally, I would not advise anyone to pester them for more information, but in this case it's warranted. Otherwise you'd always wonder....closure is a good thing. Be sure to ask them for the titles of the manscripts they think they rejected. That seems to be one of the snafus people have encountered, the multiple submitters, I mean.

I guess sending them a real one is a good idea to clarify just where you stand. Ah well, I just got my rejection.
I considered my submission a long shot anyway (I don't think it's quite what they are looking for in their YA titles), but I guess like everyone else I thought the long wait meant maybe they were thinking reaaaaaally hard about it.

I would, AQ. Things were a lot crazier for HV back then, but they seem to be much more responsive to such inquiries now. Or....you can just let things unfold as they may, sort of like having a baby: is it a boy or a girl? LOL

I also have to ask, define consideration or under review. From what I am seeing, HV is responding that anything that has not been read and rejected is still under consideration. They have stopped sending out under further review emails after their first batch in Jan.

The one rejected was the sci fi horror, the one under consideration is the paranormal fantasy one.And Anarchic, I would re-send as well. They might have been swamped with queries in January,

Feb 1. Well, I don't remember the date when you sent out that first round, but you were essentially trolling for the people not heard from since October, right? I recall that a few people put in an appearance around then (early-mid Feb) but haven't checked in for a while.
