I recommend high thread count sateen sheets, for the sole reason that if you dive onto the bed, they will jettison you right off the other side. This is hilarious.
Though slightly concussive.
If you don't care about it, I can't see how it would motivate you.
I use it to track my progress and make sure that certain events/twists are hitting at certain points in the story, but my daily writing goals tend to be to write certain scenes or transitions. Word count is incidental, though I do like it when I break 3K.
