    Weird Tales Magazine

This is one market that I'm definetely keeping an eye on to send one of my short storie wips. Here's their website: http://weirdtales.net/wordpress/ and they come recommended by Preditors and Editors. Have you guys heard any news about them, or worked with them in the past?

They're top-notch -- and a very tough market to crack.

I can attest to the fact that they are a huge standard that's been around for ages--I have the rejection slips from 20 years ago to prove it.

Definately hard to sell to. I'm another one with a stack of those Weird Tales rejections.

    Weird Tales?

Anyone have experience with them? Do they prefer snail/e mail? The website gives both options. Thanks!

I've always submitted to them via email.

    De nada.

Good luck with the sub. I haven't made it there yet, but I keep trying.

BTW, if you write Weird Tales kinds of stories, stop over and visit us in the Horror Forum. You might like it there.

In regards to Weird Tales specifically, would anyone happen to know if submissions have been re-opened as of January? Their site claims this (January 2011) as the time they had planned to re-open. However, the site itself has not reflected this as of yet. I did query an editor several weeks previous, but have not heard from him.

Any and all replies are appreciated.

    Cordially,

    Brevity

PS: I apologize if this is the wrong thread to address. I am fairly green when it comes to message boards.

I've clicked on their (Weird Tales ) submissions guidelines every day since the 1st. Still not open to any subs. So I believe that also goes for their micro-tales.

Submitted a story to Weird Tales back on March 7, and somehow got it in my head not to ask about it before 8 weeks... but now I'm trying to double check on that and I can't find it anywhere. Does that sound right to you all?

I did get an auto-acknowledgement and I've checked its status every so often.

eta: never mind, found it. 60 days. I'll give it a couple more weeks...

I got a 60 day rejection on one I subbed to them at the end of January. They're generally very good about moving the stories through their slush pile.

I subbed a story to Weird Tales on 2/11...
Status still says received -- hmmmm.
    Approaching that sixty day mark!

I subbed a story a year and a half ago by snail mail and never heard anything back. I even sent a query about it six months later, and never got a reply to my email. I'm glad they switched to the online submission form. At least you get a confirmation of receipt now ;-)

I saw this on Twitter, a Google Cache of the original post, which may load easier than the screen capture (and might have different content in the comments, depending on when each was saved):

Also relevant is when they switched owners, the previous editor (who'd been responsible for the editing when the magazine won a Hugo) was replaced. All this latest stuff is a whole new crew.

Best line from the (now deleted) comment thread on the (now-deleted) editorial (Weird Tales appears to be in full Damage Control mode):
Next time you have a mid-life crisis, perhaps you should just buy a Ferrari and wreck that instead.

Heh, that was my favorite line too.

If anyone's curious, here's their "apology". Apparently, no one did their research.

Jeff VanderMeer brings some behind the scenes knowledge in, questions the apology, and ends by quoting Anne VanderMeer's resignation: http://www.jeffvandermeer.com/2012/0...ter-stupidity/

I've been reading about this today. Their damage control is just making it worse.

Ah, this explains why so many other small presses are announcing they'd love to see the stories everyone's been pulling from WM.
