I think most people are open to critical feedback, as well. If not, shame on 'em. Don't post your work if you don't want honest feedback (of course, AWers know that. We're awesome.
).
I'm slowly but surely reading all the AWers threads.
I'm working my way through them too. It's a bit overwhelming, to be real honest, and I'm getting a headache.
One of the problems I'm having is that by the time I get to a thread, other posters have already offered advice on the things that I would have mentioned. My favorite way to crit is to not even read the other posts until after I make my suggestions, but then I end up repeating things the OP has already heard and maybe even fixed already.
It's a tough world out there for critiquers. Ha!
Oh, and imho, glowing comments are not necessarily dishonest feedback. Some people are just more likely to focus on the things they like. I mean, look how well Fifty Shades of Grey is selling. If you can believe the reviews, some people actually do like the writing. Honest doesn't have to be negative.
Good or
bad is subjective, and some focus on what they like while others focus on what they don't. Both can be honest opinions. I know as writers it can be frustrating when we only get the "I like it" type comments, because that doesn't really help us improve, but there's no reason to think the reader isn't being honest.
