    WriteOnCon online writers' conference

*WriteOnCon 2018 will be with us on Friday 9th-Sunday 11th February 2018. Posts relating to this event start from #779 (page 32). Let me know if you want your name added to the list below. *

The WriteOnCon online writers' conference for kidlit writers starts officially on Tuesday 14th August (although there are some calls for entries/queries happening this Monday). The forum has been up and running for several days, and already the YA section has the most threads. Does that mean we're the most talkative group amongst kidlit writers (or just that there are more of us)?!

Anyone else attending? Any particular bits you're looking forward to?

    Here's the (new) link, btw - http://writeoncon.org/

And here are 'our' usernames over there (let me know if you're not on the list, and I'll add you):-

I've attended every year thus far. Last year I even got Ninjaed with a crappy, sucky, no good, horrible novel that now lives in a digital trunk. The Ninja Agents were very gracious and pointing out the ways in which it sucked.

Some of the information is more useful than others, obviously, but it's always fun to watch the vlogs and eat junk food while hanging around the forums.

Yeah, I loved some of the vlogs from last year.

You've booked two days off work, Becca? That's dedication!

I'm currently critting some queries - I'd forgotten how much fun it could be sometimes, lol.

Well, it also has something to do with the fact that I'm not allowed to take time off in the second half of August because it's our busiest time... and WriteOn Con happened to fall on the last two days before my overtime slavery period! :P Convenient!

Yes! Especially since they're taking viewer questions this year.

Question: Is it alright to post my query to be Ninjaed even though the MS is still in the revision process? I am not hoping for a request; I'd just like some feedback on the letter.

Sure. That's why it's there. You could always add a note to the post that it's a WIP or, if one of the Ninja PMs you requesting a partial/full, explain then. Worst case scenario, they ask you to submit when you're done.

Maybe we should link to who we are over there? You know, help each other out with crits and what not.

ETA: Dummy me, I didn't leave my name. You can find me over there as kateh

I'll be attending! And I can't wait to see the vlog from Martha, Molly, and Holly. They posted on Twitter that they were very excited to start filming the vlog (and shared a screenshot of them filming).

Sounds like a good idea to me. I haven't put anything up yet for critting, but I'm Netz there too. If I recognise any AWers I'll try to crit (I'm currently in the YA queries, but it's getting late here now and my eyes are going square from being stuck in front of my laptop most of the day/evening, lol).

I unfortunately won't be able to attend during the bulk of the daily activities (day job wooooo), but I'll pop in during the evenings. I'm maybe_genius over there.

I got Ninja'd last year, and it gave me the confidence to finally bite the bullet and query for real, so. I'm a fan

I met an agent at the first WriteOn Con who I ended up working with on an R&R. It didn't work out on that MS, but it's definitely a great contact to make for future work. WriteOn Con is awesome for just building relationships.

I'm rachristiansen over there. Went with a fancy professional screen name :P

Yes, I recognised you too (well, your picture, which made me then go in and add my own for recognition purposes, lol!).

This is what the organisers say:-

'WriteOnCon is also not exclusive to kidlit writers. In order to stay organized, the curriculum is focused on picture book, middle grade, and young adult writers. However, much of the information provided applies to all writers, and many of the publishing professionals who participate cross over. And since the conference is absolutely, 100% free, any interested writer is encouraged to attend.'

    So come on over, thothguard51.

It's my first year participating. Haven't got anything properly polished up to put down for a critique but I'm thinking of entering the 1st 100 sentence critique. And a lot of the events look super helpful! I've got a whole list up on events I want to see.

    I'm RobinKMoran over there

I will be attending. Someone from my local writing group mentioned this before but I had completely forgotten about it. My username is MaraValderran. I like to mix things up a bit with the usernames.
Querying: Heirs of War, Prophecy Ordained
Just finished: Heirs of War, Crown of Fire
Working on: Heirs of War, Chaos to Reign

Read a sample of Heirs of War, Prophecy Ordained on my blog!

I can only sadly attend Monday & Tuesday *sigh* but I'm looking forward to it. (My username on there is Rachelwritesthings) I already am enjoying the crit I've received and I am super nervous about Ninja agents tomorrow!

This actually looks pretty cool, and I happen to be on vacation right now, so why not! I'm missesdash over there too.

ETA: it looks like the crit style over there is a little less intensive than SYW? Or does it not matter? I don't want to make anyone cry.

Yeah, I think I'd err on the gentler side (unless a poster has 'I braved QLH and lived to tell the tale' in their sig, lol).
