Question Coosa Books / Coosa Publishing

Anybody ever heard of Coosa Books or Coosa Publishing?

I recently received an unusual request from a writer who said she had made a deal with Coosa Publishing and wanted representation. I told her she didn't need us, since she already had a contract. She called Gloria and my partner said the same thing.

Coosa Books (Publishing) isn't on our "wish list" and they're not in the Writers Market. I Googled them and came up with plenty of choices on the menu, but the main web site kept leading me to HarperCollins. Even so, the HC website doesn't list Coosa as one of their imprints.

    I'll presume it's this one: http://www.coosapublishing.com/

Coosa Publishing Company is a traditional publisher based in Rome, Georgia. We are not a vanity press or a subsidy publisher. Our main focus is on works of humor, both southern and wit, and humanities such as real life dramas and stories of hope, courage, and overcoming adversities. We will accept other types of work provided that it meets our criteria and we will accept no works of pornography, erotica, excessive language, or alternative lifestyle type genres. Our belief is if you can’t read it in mixed company, we don’t want it.
They've got one book on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/097...3143?n=283155I A new company, at the least.

That does not exactly fill me with hope. Nor do the various errors in the paragraph CaoPaux quotes from their site.

I kinda like "excessive language," though. Uh, how much language is too much?

    Cool Coosa Books/Coosa Publishing

Thanks, guys. I finally found their website. Looks like they are brand new. Two books published and most of their menu choices are blank. Let's watch this one closely.

I've HEARD of these guys! Whoohoo....its in my hometown and they are just a crackerjack office in the middle of town. So far as I know its just two guys that decided it would be cool to read manuscripts and try to sell them to make money without actually "doing" anything.

    Run dear children, run.

I believe the book published was from one of the "founders". I may be wrong on that, its been quite a while since I read about them.

edited to add: they have one book out, one coming soon. Only three links work and they have only this to say on their contact us link:
    Purchase Publication Service (BUY HERE)
Clicking the button gives you a paypal payment service with a note that the recipient cannot take anymore money right now.

    Hmmmmm

Again the rule: If you haven't seen one of a particular publisher's books in a bookstore, they won't be able to get your book into a bookstore either.
