    Oprah's been had...

I hope Oprah doesn't decide to not have her book club anymore because of this...

Frey appears to have fictionalized his past to propel and sweeten the book's already melodramatic narrative...

it's the reason I refuse to watch any movie "based in" reality.

That is really something, Ray. Thanks much for sharing it. I wonder what Oprah will say on her show about it.

she probably won't say anything and hope it all just goes away...

although, in her defense, considering no one else caught this before it went to print AND was sold and made famous, it's understandable.

wonder what the publisher/movie producers are going to do now...

I suspect it would be an embarrassment for the publisher (and the fact checkers) but then again, they sold 3.5 million copies and counting, would they care?

I wouldn't be surprised to learn if the editor had a hand in the embellishment. Or maybe they forgave him the memory lapses that can result from so much drug use.

    Thanks for the link!

I still don't get why Oprah is so important. Everyone talks about her and talk as if her show were the greatest thing since sliced bread (mmm yummy).

On another note, it's human to trust and be decieved. The problem is de deciever, not the decieved.

Hmm. from the start I was wondering if it was the same Frey. Seems like he practices what he preaches! (ie, fiction....)

She should use her book club for fiction - its the best!

Word of thought - there is no such thing as 'fictionalized non-fiction' either it is real or made up. If it is real, it is non-fiction. If any of it is made up, it is no longer non-fiction it is fiction.

To me fictionalized non-fiction is like being a little bit pregnant. - impossible!

What a joke! I tend to think this genre won't last long. Readers who like non-fiction won't read it because of the lies, and readers who like fiction won't read it because it is 'non' fiction.

Someone here mentioned the possible duplicity of the editor. Yet, TSG mentions the part of the initial rejection of the fiction by his later agent. Frey, seemingly taking a hint from the agent, makes changes to the book, and resends it as non-fiction, whence it is taken on.

Interesting. One wonders about the duplicity or veracity of those key personnel in the industry, and directly tied to the book...

Wow, that's interesting, to say the least.

I wonder if the mainstream media will pick up on it? I wonder if Oprah will even hear about it?

Hey, why does it say under Ray's name that he's permanently banned? That's odd.

Well, PHEW, I have been assured that doesn't mean Ray's actually banned. Ray, I was worried there for a minute.
