Morning, Purgies. Happy post-election day, whether you're pleased or distraught.

sunna, have you read her D@ughter of the F0rest? I've been hopscotching my way through that series, reading out of order, and though this is the first, it's the latest I've read. It's also amazing.

Cheeky, woot!

Y'know, it would be interesting to see if there WAS a huge population influx for Colorado and Washington after this. I mean, I see a lot of people joking "Oh, I'm gonna move to Colorado now!" but I wonder if some folks will really do it.

Mornin', Purgies!!!

Awesome night, stayed up until 3 am to watch all the election coverage. The meltdown on Fox with Rove desperately trying to deny reality was hilarious. The Romney campaign & GOP had their own set of facts and math this whole year and it blew up in their faces.

Good morning, y'all!

I was up until 2:30, and then the children woke me up at 6. Totally worth it. That speech was fantastic. And spot on. :snoopy: s for the purgies whose guy won, :Hug2: s for those whose guy did not. I've been on both sides and I know how both feel. But at the end of the day (and the start of it, too), we are all Americans before we are Republicans or Democrats. And the vast majority of us have more in common than we don't. We all want a roof over our heads and food in the pantry and better opportunities for our kids than we had. And we should all be proud to be Americans, and ready to set party lines aside and work for those common goals. :)

*steps off soapbox and passes out chocolate and mimosas*

ETA: I have coffee and am going grocery shopping this morning with only one kid! PARTY! :D

Morning Purgs!

Yep, pretty pleased with election results. YES for marriage equality in four states. Plus, yay for NH and WI! *happy dances*

And yeah, Colorado and Washington are both really close, so guess what's predictably the number one topic on my campus this morning?

Oh and books, I'm (finally!) reading Cindy's series. :)

Also, my German seventh-graders are adorable.

Seconding Tas' "Today is going to be a good day". Never mind that I have to do ALL the things.

Dys, that's so funny. I have a friend whose dad texted her last night that he'd be heading to Colorado in the spring. Old hippie turned businessman. Cracked me up.

Today definitely seems party-worthy to me, though I think Tas should probably take her pants off before we open the bar.

Steve, that Fox/Rove catfight was a thing of beauty. Score one for real math. :)

Can I just say how amazing it was to have social media be such a huge part of this election? At one point a high school classmate living in NV posted that her mother had lost her ride to the voting center in her area, and me and another girl I haven't talked to or seen since 12th grade both offered to shuttle her there. I saw this happening all over the place on twitter and FB, and it made me so proud of my country.

Haupe, I finished Daughter of the Forest just last week, which is what led me to Heart's Blood. Such beautiful books, both of them. And they give me hope, because my natural pacing is a lot like this author's, and for the last few years I've been assuming I just took too long to set things up.

I'm pretty sure that in the event of an actual revolution, blood would be shed for the right to see what the hell is up with The Donald's hair and to distribute images of what it looks like right out of the shower. After that, the poor will be taking over his hotels and casinos and business towers, but first, the hair!

Maryn, priorities in order

Just read about the Donald's meltdown.

The statistician in me finds the results and the polling fascinating, looking at who was right and who was wrong and why. I loved studying/teaching polling stuff. But just once I want to actually be part of an exit poll!

Hi Purgatory!

I want to pick your collective brains about something. It's a premise for a short story I started a long time ago.

So, the idea is that we really do have winter and spring because of the reason in the old Greek myth --- because Hades kidnapped Persephone.

Then one day Demeter gets tired of that crap and stages a beat down of Hades and gets Persephone back.

The problem is that I'm not an expert in Greek mythology, so I don't know the ramifications of this funny little idea. Like, why did Demeter have to accept that raw deal in the first place? Was it some ruling of the gods? And what kinds of things would happen if she and Persephone stopped obeying it--- you know besides that there wouldn't be winter anymore?

I'm trying to tie climate change into this idea too somehow. FWIW I know it sounds farfetched and absurd, but I'm hoping that it will work as an absurdist kind of story. It's not going to be serious-high-fantasy type stuff.

Thanks in advance for untangling my brain with your collective geniusnessesss!!!

Going to catch up now... I always feel so rude when I post a question before I catch up, but Internet is so slow today and I literally just had five minutes to sit down and type this, so I hope you'll forgive me!

About the Colorado thing -- there was a great article in the NY-er about Portugal, where everything is decriminalized and the focus is on harm reduction. I wish everyone could read it who's involved in making laws about that stuff, because while it's a pretty complex picture, it does seem like there are some real upsides to decriminalization. And that's even with the hard stuff. With pot it just seems like a no-brainer-- even my hero J1mmy C@rter has been in favor for years :)

ETA: thanks Lily! I'm looking stuff up too, but it's like there's TOO much info -- too many sources that just summarize the story. I know the basic story, but what I need is to pick a human brain! ...Wait, that sounds bad. I already have a human brain :)

Mmn, juleps. :)

Kris, I'm nowhere near an expert, but Demeter had to accept the deal because Persephone ate a pomegranate seed while she was in the underworld - which technically should have meant she stayed there forever, but some other god --Zeus? help me out here, somebody-- decreed that she'd come back for half the year because Demeter was grieving so hard that the whole world was frozen permanently in winter.

In the Homeric version (I think it's the Homeric, anyway? again, someone who knows more will hopefully weigh in here soon :p) she's actually the queen of the shades of the dead, though, and not as much a damsel in distress.

Back from eye appt. and lunch with my Mom. Came home and found a fake e-mail from supposedly the Better Business Bureau. Make sure not to click any links if you get one of these, because they contain viruses.

I say that liddle donnie trumplette needs to cast off his wig so we can run it up a flag pole if we're to revolt with him. It needs to be the banner.

Need about PR. I saw that as an "aside" on some random website this morning. I can' believe it's not huge news yet. (was there a thing going on yesterday? )

Juleps? Bourbon in the morning? yuuuuummmmm. I didn't get my juleps this past summer after June since they weren't on my diet. *sigh*

I teach tonight so no booze for me, alas.

Camped out on the sofa, but need to go to the store at some point.

Except any change in puerto Rico's status would require approval by congress, and I can't see that happening any time soon.
