If you can't get published in the UK, you should give the US a shot. We love British stuff over here, lol.

You can go to Starbucks and not buy anything. I did it all the time during the school year. About once a week, I would treat myself to a drink.
I've actually only tried US agents, since the US market is a lot bigger. Sadly, interest in my adult UF has been pretty limited. I'm hoping that people might get a bit more excited about the YA UF.

I loved all of the action in the first few chapters. It shows that your lead female character is a fighter and a survivor. Maybe literary agents feel like that would intimidate the readers since most of them enjoy helpless heroines who are always saved by everyone.
Yeah, from what I hear the market for UFs is a lot lot LOT stronger in YA. In the states, at least. YA is the best, though.
