I've been lurking here for a while so decided to take the plunge and post. I'm a newbie writer working on my first novel and I'm about 25,000 words in. I try to write 1,000 words a day and if I miss my target I make up for it at the weekend - this strict schedule is due to all the times in the past I started novels and never finished them. I'm determined this time as my 40th birthday is coming up and a completed manuscript is going to be my gift to myself.

Anyway, enough about me, I just wanted to say hello and that I'm really looking forward to spending time here and getting to know the group (but only after I've written my 1,000 words for that day!).

Hi song_of_calliope! Ooh, I really like your username. I'm new here too. When I wrote my novel, I usually count pages instead of words, but I guess you can estimate how many words just by looking at the page length :)

welcome and good for you on having a specific goal. my goal is to get finally published this year. so far i have not started because of various family crap but i am ready. you are inspiring me. go go go!!!

If you go to the bottom of the page to the 'forum jump' you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. After you post 50 posts you can use the SYW areas to get help there. The password for some of the areas is…..vista. A word to the wise, it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

Thanks again, all. I've been doing some critting in SYW today and have been so impressed with a lot of what I'm seeing here. So glad I found this place!
